Mia walked home oblivious to her surroundings, immersed in her thoughts. Her bestie Miley was ranting about something probably some cute guy, but she wasn't in the mood.

Her grades had dropped an inch this term which was bad considering she wanted to get into one of the best colleges in the country.

She felt a hard pinch on her elbow.
"Ouch" she cried in pain, "Miley! What was that for?" Miley looked at her as if she was some disgusting twerp. " Does this mean you've not been listening to me all this while, I'm telling you something very crucial to my life."

Mia looked at her best friend and sighed. Miley was such a drama queen about everything. "What were you saying?"

Miley rolled her eyes "I was saying how I hope Leo makes it to my birthday party tonight."

"Leo? The guy on the football team? The one you broke up with last year?" Mia asked, she was as puzzled as she sounded.

"Yes" Miley replied simply she obviously wasn't ready to dabble on the reasons she wanted him to come to her party. She knew Mia wouldn't understand. It was a miracle they were best friends, they never quite saw the world the same way.

"I thought you said you hated him." Mia asked still confused.

"I hated what he did, cheating on me and all but who could hate such a hottie" she replied dreamily

Mia tried visualizing Leo, he was passably attractive, definitely not a hottie. But it was no use arguing with Miley so she said instead" so you're into him again"

"Yeah, besides he's the captain of the football team now." She cooed
And she kept talking till they reached Mia's home.

"I'll see you at the party," Mia said and with that Miley's face turned sour.
"I can't believe you won't come with me to organize the party..... You'll come right?" She asked quirking her brows.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world!" Mia exclaimed and she meant it. She wasn't really a party person, but she'd never leave Miley on her birthday. Miley would never forgive her.
"You better not, and make sure you wear the clothes I got you." She warned

Mia winced, she didn't feel like wearing the skimpy dress Miley got her but she didn't want Miley getting upset on her birthday so she had no choice.

At Mia's home

Just as she was setting her bag down, her mum came in from nowhere. She was always doing that.

"Mum! You startled me, again" Mia gasped.

"Since when am I not allowed to walk around freely in my own house!" Her mum replied cheerfully.

"Where's dad? I saw his car parked outside." Mia asked warily

"He's upstairs, he'll be down for dinner soon enough." Her mum replied

" Oh, I'll need to take a bath," she said

" Don't make me come get you, come down for dinner in time." Her mum warned.

She mumbled a reply and ran upstairs taking two steps at a time. Dinner would be bad, she'd have to tell them about her grades dropping and they'd be disappointed. She brought out the make up pallete Miley gave her. She wasn't a make up fan, but Mia would appreciate her using it. She had a quick bath and went downstairs for dinner. Her dad was already there.

" Hey Dad!" She said with a forced smile.

Her dad looked up and smiled "now how's my little trophy girl?"

Mia rolled her eyes, she hated when her dad called her a little girl.

Her mum laughed at her reaction, but said nothing.
