frank swung his legs, the cool afternoon breeze coming through the open kitchen window, tousling his silky hair. he was sitting on the kitchen counter, watching mikey do his schoolwork at the island. he was supposed to be doing his homework, too, but he just couldn't be bothered. gerard was at work for the afternoon, and then he was 'doing some errands' so he'd be home late.

frank didn't know gerard knew the word errands.

but mikey was really cool, that was one thing frank had uncovered. his snarky, sarcastic personality made him really funny, but he was also quite awkward with his long limbs and his clumsiness was hilarious to frank, yet he was also very wise. his personality was such a contrast to gerard's, it was hard to think about how they were brothers. where gerard was soft and sweet to frank, mikey was rude and made fun of pete, but it seemed like something they just did. where gerard was protective, and how he got nervous if frank was in danger, mikey was more laid back, and let pete fight his own battles. though, they were the same with their tenacity, which is understandable to frank.

pete entered the room, and frank subtly examined him. pete was an interesting character to frank, he was very laid back and always laughing, but he also had an effect on mikey that turned the sarcastic boy into a little puppy, always watching pete with adoring doe eyes. pete kissed the top of mikey's head and grinned at frank lazily.

"gerard'll be home soon, frankie," he said, and frank nodded. pete was also the only one of gerard's friends that was comfortable with him, and would call him by nicknames.

"okie-dokie," frank replied, leaning back on his palms.

roughly an hour later, frank was dozing in the short grass of the front yard, watching the clouds. pete and mikey sat near him, speaking quietly about whatever lovers speak about. gerard's truck pulled into the driveway and a lazy smile spread itself over his face, only to be wiped off again a second later, replaced with an expression of shock.

gerard got out of the truck, his once bright red hair now jet black, darker than the chipping paint of the truck he was standing in front of.

"you dyed it again?" pete asked, and gerard laughed, running a hand through it and pushing it back.

"the red was fadin'," he replied, throwing his jacket onto the porch and walking over to them, sitting next to frank, who clambered onto his lap. the smaller boy reached out to touch the fresh midnight strands, twirling a piece between his thumb and forefinger. gerard smiled at him, and frank smiled back, pecking his lips quickly. "d'ya' like it?" he asked quietly, and frank almost giggled at the nervous look on gerard's face.

"of course i do," frank replied softly, pushing the hair until it was slicked back. "you look... tough," he continued, using the word pete had taught him, and gerard beamed at him.

apparently, in their neighborhood, the word "tough" had two meanings. one was cool, and bad-ass, and the other was strong and rough. the both of them were considered good things, and compliments, but frank needed to test it to make sure.

"thank you, love," gerard said to him, kissing his lips softly. "i have another thing- it's uh- it's in the truck. can you wait in the living room while i get it?" he asked, and frank nodded, standing and skipping into the living room, where he found brendon twirling a knife.

"hiya, bren," he said, falling onto the couch. brendon just smiled and nodded at him, before going back into watching the blade spin around his fingers.

frank liked the way gerard's home was always full of people, he always had somebody to talk to or even just be with. at his parent's place, it was always empty, and it even felt empty when frank's parents were at the house.

frank watched the sharp tool spin along with brendon, how he flicked it our and spun it, but never cut a finger, watching it glisten in the evening light. eventually though, footsteps were heard at the entrance of the room, and frank turned.

"you're- holy shit," he whispered, repeating pete from earlier.

"i figured, you know, if i was finally gonna start takin' ya' on dates or somethin' then they should be at nice restaurants- maybe i could meet ya' mom, too?" gerard said, blushing at franks gaze that swept his body head to toe multiple times.

"you're wearing a suit," frank breathed, and gerard laughed nervously, tugging at the collar of his white shirt.

"yeah, i know? sorry, i can change-"

"no, i lo- i like it a lot," frank says, tugging gerard forward by the cuffs of his blazer.

"are ya' sure? i've never owned a suit before, i wasn't sure if they put it on me right," he mumbled, looking down at himself and pulling on the end of the jacket.

"you look wonderful, gerard," frank reassured him, and gerard grinned at him.

"i just didn't want to seem like, you know, like myself when i took you out."

"gerard," frank whispered, standing, "you are the guy i ran away with, the guy i- oh, gerard," frank whined, falling into his chest. "i have something to say to you and i don't know how you're going to react, because we've only been dating a month now although i've known you longer but it feels like you're just right, you know?" he rambled, resting his chin on gerard's chest to look up at him. their eyes locked, and gerard grinned.

"i love you, sugar," gerard said, and frank beamed at him, azing deeply into his eyes.

"i love you, too," he replied, and the two smiled at each other, frank's desire to kiss gerard rising rapidly.

"well, if it's any consolation, i think you look pretty hot, too, gee," brendon said in the background, causing frank to erupt into giggles, laughing into gerard's chest.

"thanks, brendon," gerard chuckled, running his fingers through frank's hair absentmindedly.
