Chapter 46

Maria pov
I sat up, where was I? I frantically looked around the room. Dick laid next to me on the edge of the bed. I sat up and noticed the IV. I kept it in and got up. I took the bag off the stand and carried it with me to the bathroom. I went into the bathroom and my maskless reflection surprised me. The reflection of Maria was foreign. I was so used to seeing Zodiac. I hated it. I grabbed the nearest item and threw it at the mirror. The mirror shattered. I stepped back and felt two arms around me.

"Maria are you alright?" Dick asked.

"I failed. I failed you, Jamie, Bruce, Ollie and Dinah. I failed the entire Justice league." I said as my knees gave out from under me.

Dick sat us down on the floor with me in his lap. "You haven't failed anyone. You just slipped and as soon as you're free. You are going to pick you're self up and you will rejoin the league." He said.

I started crying into his chest. Dick put a hand on my head and let me cry.

"I wanna be here with you and Jamie. I wanna go back to our lives before we had Jamie." I cried.

"But you love our daughter." Dick said.

"And I love this baby too, but it's just so complicated. I should've never came back after she was born or maybe I should have never left the league and worked while I was pregnant." I said.

"You know the league wouldn't have let you do that." Dick said.

"I just wanna go back to our lives." I cried.

"Maria please calm down. You're over working your self." He said.

"Can I have my mask back?" I asked.

"I'll give it to you in the morning." Dick said as he picked me up and carried me back to bed. He held me closed and rubbed my stomach till I fell asleep.

In the morning I felt better. Dick didn't let me leave the bed. Alfred brought breakfast up for me and as I ate as Dick cleaned the glass up.

When he finished and came and sat with me. A knock came at the door. Dick got up and went to the door.

"How's Maria?" I heard.

"I'm much better." I called. Damien came in.

"And how are you doing? Are you sleeping and eating regularly?" I asked as I rested my hands on my stomach.

"I am, are you?" Damien asked. Dick slipped out.

"Now I am, they had interesting ways of treating prisoner's in Belle Reve. Some days they wouldn't feed us. Sometimes I would have to beg the guards for a meal." I said.

"We could pay them a visit and get some sense knocked into them." Damien said.

He climbed onto the bed and sat at the end. "I think that would only make it worse when I get back." I said. My baby started kicking, I rubbed my stomach.

"Do you know what you're having?" Damien asked.

"No I don't." I said.

"I wanted to find out when he or she was born."

"Well it's your child." Damien got up and the door opened.

"Excuse me, Damien." Dick said as he came in with Jamie.

"Hey sweetie." I Said as I held my arms out for Dick to give her to me. He stopped at the end of the bed and I put my arms down.

"Jamie, who's that?" He asked her while pointing at me. I smiled.

"Momma." She said.

"She said Momma." I exclaimed. Dick brought her over to me. He set her on the bed and she crawled over to me.

"She said it the other day. I wasn't there with her, but Jason was and for the rest of the night all he wanted her to say was Uncle Jason." Dick said.

I smiled. "That sounds like Jason." I Said as I rubbed my stomach.

"Hey Jamie, you're going to be a big sister." I Said to her.

"That's right Jamie, mommy's gonna have a baby and then you'll be a big sister." Dick said.

Jamie didn't seem to care at all. "I don't think she understands." Dick said.

"I think you're right." I said. I laid back against the pillow.

"Are you alright?" Dick asked.

"Just tired." I yawned.

"We'll get some rest and I'll get a new IV for you. That ones almost empty." He said.

"Thank you, can you leave Jamie?" I asked.

"Sure." He said as he kissed my forehead.

"Be good for mommy and let her rest." Dick told Jamie.

I took the pillows out from behind me and laid on my side. Jamie crawled over to me and laid next to me.

"You wanna feel your sibling move?" I asked.

"Ya," she said.

I took her tiny hand and pressed it against my stomach. My baby kicked her hand and Jamie pulled away and giggled.

"It's weird isn't it." I smiled. She nodded.

"I've missed you sweetie." I Said as I kissed her head.

"Dose mommy look different without her mask?" I asked.

Jamie nodded. "It's still mommy." I said. I yawned and went to sleep.

I only woke up when Dick was changing my IV. He picked Jamie up and set her on the floor.

"We'll be in the sitting room if you need anything." Dick said. He kissed me and left with Jamie.
