Chapter 35

Maria pov
I held Jamie as I watched Dick prepare dinner. A knock came at the basement door. I went over and opened the door. M'gann and Connor stood there.

"What are you two doing here?" I asked as I let them in.

"Were here for dinner. Did Dick not tell you?" M'gann asked.

"Sorry Maria, I forgot. I was going to tell you after your shower this morning but you were a mermaid and I forgot." Dick said. I sighed.

"Well let's get to dinner." M'gann said.

"Let's hope it's edible." I said.

"Oh it will be." Jason said as he came down the stairs.

"When did you get here?" I asked.

"I've been here for at least a few hours how have you not noticed I was here?" Jason asked.

"I don't know I've been with Jamie since I got back from Atlantis." I said.

"You went to Atlantis?" Jason exclaimed.

"Ya I had to get demerified." I said.

"Demerified?" Dick asked.

"You can't say anything about making up words. You make up words all the time and use like their real." I said pointing at him.

He put a hand over his chest. "I've been shot." He said acting dramatic.

I rolled my eyes and threw Jamie's blanket at him. He caught it. "Now the blanket is mine." Dick smiled.

"Your taking your daughter's blanket."

"Yes I am." Dick said.

"Some hero you are." I said.

Jamie started crying and Dick threw me the blanket. I bounced Jamie till she stopped crying. She then nuzzled her face into my chest, let out a yawn and went to sleep.

"That has to be the cutest yawn I've ever seen." Dick said with a smile.

"She is adorable." M'gann said. Jason stayed and had dinner with us.

"I noticed you had a tire swing outside." Jason said.

"Ya since we didn't know how long we would be here we went ahead and put a tire swing up." I said.

"We didn't even need a latter." Dick said proudly.

"I've never been one." M'gann stated.

"Alright we need to change that right now." Jason said.

He grabbed M'gann's wrist and dragged her outside. Connor, Dick and I followed them. I sat on the porch steps and held Jamie as Dick, Connor and Jason played on the tire swing.

Dick ran over to me. "Come on Maria." He said as he took my wrist and pulled me to my feet.

He took Jamie from me, "you missy deserve some fun with our friends without Jamie." He said.

"Fine." I said.

I ran at the moving swing and jumped and grabbed onto the rope.

"Hey, pleasure for you to drop in." Jason said.

I gripped the roped as Connor pushed us on tire swing. The branch cracked and Connor grabbed the tire throwing Jason and I off. We laid in the grass laughing. Connor, M'gann and Dick ran over and helped us up.

"That was fun." Jason said.

"It was." I got up.

"Alright Connor is banned from pushing people on the tire swing." Dick said. I took Jamie from him.

"I agree with that. But man was that fun. I kinda wanna do that again." Jason said as he got up. I laughed.

"Let's go have dessert." Dick said.

We went in and ate the pie Jason had made. We sat around the table laughing eating pie and drinking coffee.

"So we got this mug for Bruce the other day." Dick said as he got up and went to the cabinet.

"We actually have the exact same mug, because Maria pranked me with the same mug." Dick took out a simple white mug with No design on it. And filled it up with coffee and gave it to Jason who'd yet to have a cup.

"Let me guess at the bottom of the mug it says, 'you've been poisoned.'" Jason said.

"It does." I smiled.

Jamie started crying again. "Ooh someone smells." I said.

I got up and took her upstairs and changed Jamie really quick then ran back downstairs. Jamie waved her arms and smiled as I carried her downstairs.

"Someone's happy." Dick said as he took Jamie from me.

"It seems so, let's hope she doesn't stay up all night. Because the last thing we need is for her sleep schedule to be thrown off." I said. Our friends laughed.

Thirty minutes later Jamie went to sleep so I put her to sleep and turned the baby monitor on.

An hour and a half later our friends left for their night patrol leaving Dick and I alone at our house again.

"I kinda miss the action." I said.

"I do too, this witness protection thing is terrible. All we do is stay here all day and take care of Jamie. If anything I think we need to go out and get some action." Dick said.

"We could get Tim or someone to babysit while we have a night patrol." I said.

"That sounds like a great ides." Dick said.
