Chapter Four

"Life is a hell of thing to happen for a person." -David Rossi

~Rachel's POV~

I could finally admit at that moment that I was afraid, petrified in fact.

They continued to shove me forward until we were inside the house. It smelled of dust and mold, making my nose tickle. They pulled me down a hallway and threw open a door. It was nothing but cracked walls and broken glass scattered on the floor. They carelessly threw me inside. I barely missed the glass and backed into a corner. They smiled sweetly at me and took a seat in the chairs across from me.

I didn't want to be here.

"Don't be afraid, honey. Relax, make yourself at home."

I just got back to the people I loved, to the person who I needed the most. Now, I'm back to square one again. I struggled to keep from crying and I started to feel sick. I caught the eyes of the quiet one, my skin crawling as I quickly looked away.
With his mask still on, his eyes looked away as well and he eventually left the room. The others didn't seem to care as they stood up and ventured closer to me.

"Don't cry, nothing will happen to you...yet. Were just in it for the money and to finally get out of here. When we escaped the insitution, we knew we had to make a fast escape. Now that your dad is gone, he can't tell us what to do. Now, we have to make our own decisions!"

She jumped and started to spin around in circles, acting like a little kid. The other was quiet but he smirked as he watched. I stayed pressed against the corner, watching their every move.

"However, if you try to do anything stupid...we won't hesitate to slit your throat and watch you bleed to death." The man snapped at me, making me jump.

The girl came over and sat in his lap. They both laughed with each other, seemingly ignoring me for the moment. I looked past them at the broken window behind them. It was shattered completely, the chilling breeze floating through. If I had to escape tonight, that would be my exit.

"We're going to step out of the room. Only for a little bit, don't worry. Remember, If you try to escape and we find you...I'll be the first to deal with you." The girl's voice was dripping with venom and it made shivers crawl up my spine.

I nodded slolwy and watched them leave before they slammed the door. I was honestly shocked that they'd leave me in a room with an open window. This had to be a joke...maybe a test? Either way, I was on my feet and making my way to the window. I tried my best to break free of the ropes binding my hands, but it was only digging deeper into my skin.

I looked behind me again at the closed door. This can't be real, they have to know this window is here. Maybe the girl is waiting for me to jump out so she can finally have a reason to kill me. What if she's lurking in the shadows right now? Just waiting, counting down the minutes until that bloodlusting itch of hers is finally scratched.

I had to get out of here, I had to get away from them.

I limped my way over to the window and was deciding on just throwing myself out of it when the door opened. I froze completely, it was too late to go back to the corner. So I just stood there, waiting for them to see me.
I held my breath, listening for their voice and footsteps. None came. I counted the minutes in my head, my chest starting to hurt. Finally, when I couldn't hold my breath any longer, I let it out and turned.
It was the quiet guy with the mask. The one who had left early from the room. He started walking to me, hands balled into fists and footsteps heavy. I cowered back and waited for him to hit me, grab me, stab me. I waited for the pain. Nothing.
He roughly grabbed my wrists and jerked me towards him. I whimpered, but was shocked as he took a knife out and sliced through the rope. I rubbed my wrists and looked at him with my mouth dropped open.
