Chapter Fourteen

"Everyone has a dark side....some are more hidden then others."

~Reid's POV~

The scream....it was from Rachel.

It made my heart skip a beat and my eyes go wide. The feeling of terror and worry spread through my veins like fire. The scream was muffled, but I could hear the horror thick in her voice. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I shoved open the bathroom door and stumbled out into the room with one shoe on, three buttons un buttoned and tie untied. I didn't bother to care as I rushed into the office where everyone else was. I ran inside, instantly seeing a frightened Rachel collasped on the ground. Hotch and Morgan were on both sides of her trying to get an answer.

"H-He was....there....he k-knows...h-he's always watching..." She was whispering in a low and quiet voice.

I could barely hear her and I saw the color completely drain from her face. Her hands were shaking like a leaf at this point, the look of pain crossing her face several times. Charlotte stood by J.J and Penelope, tears running down her face and her little mind trying to comprehend what was happening to her big sister. I walked slowly over to Rachel and kneeled down. It was smart for the two not to touch her, I could see how she was ready to snap.
I have watched her long enough to know her signs by now. I recognized the tightly clasped hands in front of her, her arms twitching every few seconds. The next thing she would do is her breathing. Her chest quickly rose and fell in rythmatic patterns, her lips parting to let the air escape.
Her eyes were wide and always looked back to the window...like she was waiting for something. I narrowed my eyes and slowly put my hand on her shoulder. She snapped her head back towards me and gasped. Once she saw it was me, a small bit of releif relaxed her face.

"Rachel..w-what happened?" I asked quietly, watching her every move.

She held her arms out for a moment until Charlotte sat in her lap and her arms went around her. She looked at me with tired eyes, I could always see into her eyes. She was a hard book to open, but her eyes said so much she didn't want to say. She took deep breaths, closing her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose. She finally looked up at me and only me as she held Charlotte closer.

"I...I saw h-him...the guy who kidnapped me...he was outside..." Her voice choked as her eyes teared up and she returned her gaze to the window.

I walked over and quickly looked out the window, seeing nothing out of the ordianary. Groups of people bustled by and didn't stop once as they made their way to their destination. I looked back at Rachel, seeing her body shivering from pure fear. Hotch cleared his throat and looked at everyone until he caught our attention.

"Morgan, I want you to check the cameras now, if he was out there, then he will be on that tape. Penelope, check the area and see which places you could pin point as to where they could be staying or hiding. Reid, I want you to come with me and we will check out the area, see if we can find anything. Rossy and J.J, I want you two to start calling witnesses, see if you can find anybody that saw what just happened."

We all nodded and started getting to work. It was like a huge black cloud was hanging over our heads now. Even Charlotte's undeveloped mind started thinking and I knew she could feel the tension in the room. So their tactic was teasing us, torturing Rachel until she finally broke down.
It made me angry...pissed off actually. I felt my face redden as I pushed the thought from my mind, this wasn't me. I looked at Rachel's face and still saw the fear lingering behind her eyes. It made my heart hurt whenever I saw her like this. I didn't want her to be afraid, I wanted her to know I was here and we were never letting them hurt her again.
Charlotte squirmed and when Rachel let her go, her eyes never left her as she walked to J.J. I gently grabbed Rachel's hands and pulled her to her feet. She was still trembling, though it was easy to see she was trying to force herself to stop. Only then, did I see something else was wrong. The bags under her eyes were darker, almost black. Her breathing was coming out in small breaths, her face contorted in a small amount of pain.
