Anne cupped her mouth, staring at the doctor with complete shot and disbelief. "I beg your pardon?"

"You heard me right, Mrs. Carlyle," The doctor nodded. "You are pregnant."

Anne felt a wave of things. Joy, excitement, nervousness, and fear. She looked down at her belly, which hasn't developed. She was going to cherish and love this baby, Phillip will cherish their baby, but will society?

Anne's joyful smile faltered a little. She was known for being very practical.  "Thank you, doctor, I'll be on my way now."

Anne waited on a park bench for Phillip as he pulled over by the parking lot, Anne got in stiffly. Her heart was pounding and her chest was rising. Phillip lifted an eyebrow.

"So," He began, he had on his Ringmaster suit and top hat. "How was it? Do you have the flu? A fever maybe?"

Anne smiled and looked down at her legs. Christmas was tomorrow, she'll tell him then. "Just a little cough. Nothing bad."

Phillip eyed her, looking at her smile as she looked down at herself. He didn't seem convinced, but if it were really important, Anne would tell him. "Fine. Are you good enough to do trapeze stunts?"

Anne shook her head wildly. "No! I cannot do that, not for a long time."

     "But you said–"

"Forget what I said, Phillip," Anne interrupted, her lips tightened. Was he going to push her until she'd crack? She couldn't. This was their baby, she wanted it to be special. "I'll just watch you from backstage."

Phillip frowned, cocking an eyebrow. He started the engine and drove off towards the bay to the circus. "Alright. You're acting strange, darling."

"Trust me," Anne smiled, turning to look at him with a twinkle in her soft brown eyes. "I'm more than okay."

"You're not going up tonight?" W.D asked in disbelief, his eyes were filled with nervousness and worry. "Then what am I supposed to do? You should've told me sooner, you–"

"Just do what you do best W.D," Anne chuckled, patting his cheek. "Mesmerize the crowd! Don't fret about me. I'm counting on you, big brother."

W.D expression turned to pure hatred. "So much for not being pressured, huh?"

Anne laughed, making her way toward the bleachers and sitting in the front row. She craved for popcorn. Nonetheless, she stayed put as the audience swarmed around the seats, picking the best ones. Anne turned and saw Phillip rehearsing his dance backstage. She shook her head, chuckling as she watched the show, looking down at her stomach and the life she and he has created.

     Together.
