We got a letter from te council today.
They found ties that my dad is living in our house and they want my mum to resend the claim that she is the only working adult living in the house.
My dad has been illegally living with us since 2008.
And they only found out now. In 2017. My dad was quick to move out. He went to live with his friend and bit by bit, his stuff slowly trickled away from us. By the time the deadline came, you never would have thought that he ever lived here at all.
My little brothers mood swings have increased.
He doesn't understand what was happening.
And we didn't tell him. For fear that they'd get worse.
He was 12.
He should be old enough to understand without freaking out.
But we know him.
And he's not even in the brink of maturity.
So I faked a smile, forced out a couple lies that tasted sour in my mouth.
And then went to sleep. With the idea that one day, maybe, hopefully, he'll understand.
And the idea that my mother's nine year long lie won't be discovered. And she won't go to prison.

Faking Smiles
Short StoryI'm depressed. I'm unhappy. I want to die. The only thing stopping me from ending it all is pretending I'm okay until even I think it's true. But you wouldn't know that. Because you never bothered to ask. *Trigger Warning*
