Luna Finley's P.O.V

I lightly tapped my pencil on my desk as I sat in class. I sighed and looked out the window I was seated by. I smiled slightly while looking at the leaves twirl in the wind.

"Ms. Finley, what did I just say?" My AP English teacher asked me.

I quietly cursed under my breath. "I don't know, Mrs. McAndrews."

"That proves my point then. Class, just because it is the end of the year, that doesn't mean you should be slacking in school! Your education matters." I tuned my teacher out and continued to stare out the window.

School bothers me to be honest. I mean learning and getting an education doesn't bother me. I just hate being trapped in the school walls. I could be out in the world exploring and learning about the real world. I don't think knowing the Pythagorean Theorem will get me far in life; unless I am going to be a mathematician, but that is highly unlikely. I wish I was going on adventures, but I'm stuck here in English learning about poets.

"Luna!" Mrs. McAndrews screeched. I flinch slightly and turn my head in her direction. "I've had it with you not paying attention in my class. Stay after the bell rings so we can have a talk."

I felt my cheeks grow hot. I looked around the room and saw that some students snickered while others just stared at me. I rolled my eyes and put my head in my arms.

Soon, the bell rang signaling that class was over. I packed up my things and walked up to my teacher's desk. I slung my backpack over my shoulder and held on the strap.

"You wanted to see me, Mrs. McAndrews?" I asked nervously. She looked up from her laptop and scowled at me.

"Yes, I did." She said.

I looked down at my shoes, not wanting to make eye contact with my enraged teacher.

"Ms. Finley you have been doing poorly in my class. You have not been paying attention to my lectures, you don't do the assignments-"

"I get it." I interrupted.

She cleared her throat and continued. "What has been getting to you? I just don't understand why you have been so distracted in my class. You did so well in the beginning of the year. I just-" She stopped talking and her eyes widened like she had just remembered she left cookies in her oven.

"Is it because of Jessa?" She asked quietly. As I heard that name escape her lips, my heart sunk deep in my chest. I felt my eyes sting from tears forming.

"Don't talk about her." I said flatly.

"You need to move on, Luna. What happened to her was tragic but-"

"Don't talk about her! You barely knew her. You have no right to tell me to move on! Imagine if that happened to you! Do you think you would be able to move on in a couple of months?" I said furiously before storming out of the classroom, ignoring her and her frantic voice calling my name.

The halls were empty by the time I got to my locker, it was the end of the day so no one stays around school. I put in my combination in the lock and opened it. I put my textbook on the self I had put in there to keep me organized, but that didn't really work out as planned. I looked at the mirror in my locker and examined myself.

"God, did I look like that all day?" I whispered to myself.

"Yes you did."

I jumped and turned around.

"Astro, you scared me!" I said to my brother as I closed my locker shut.

"It's your fault for not seeing me." He argued. I rolled my eyes and started walking.
