Getting Serious

After I had thought things through I came downstairs and found Violetta organising her bag, when she caught sight of me she smiled.

"Sorry Angie, but Olga and I have to go." she says.

"Both of you?" I reply, suddenly anxious.

"Olga has to go shopping and the pharmacy just phoned to say Dad's new medicine is here and I'm the only one authorised to collect it. Sorry, we'll be back soon."

Violetta hugs me and then heads to her dads office.

"I'm off," she says opening the door, "Remember I love you."

"Couldn't forget." German says grogily.

"Violetta, can I come? I need to fetch something from town." comes Ramallo's voice.

"Of course." she replies very maturely.

It shocks me actually how grown up she is, she has really grown up since I've last seen her and I realise how much I've missed. She isn't the young girl who loves to sing, she is the mature woman who is taking on the job of becoming her father's carer because he is depressed. The idea of Violetta losing her life like this shocks me and I know I have to fix German immediatley.

Ramallo comes out the office a moment later and Olga leaves the kitchen and both of them see me at the same time. The two of them then come and hug me, which comes as a surprise, especially as Ramallo is not really a hugger.

"Angie, Thank God you are here!" says Olga.

"We really need you." adds Ramallo.

"Well I'm here now, I got this." I say trying to cheer them up.

"We need to go. Back later." says Violetta as they all leave.

As they left, I stood in the living room unsure of what to do. I decided to make myself a drink and speak to German properly.

I boiled the kettle and got out a mug, then decided to make one for German too. I made him a coffee and then took the drinks to his office.

I didn't bother knocking, I just walked in.

"Made you a drink." I say placing it on his desk.

"I didn't hear you knock." says German croakily.

"That's because I didn't." I reply with a smile.

This seems to agitate him.

"I'm not thirsty." he says.

"I don't care, drink it, it will do your throat good."

"I have work, please leave." he replies.

"Drink your coffee and talk with me then I'll leave." I reply now growing annoyed.

"I don't have time for this." he says.

I glare at him.

"I didn't tell her to stay home, I told her to go on the tour." he says defensivley.

"I never accused you of anything although I don't blame her for not going, you've given her a lot of reasons to worry, look at the state you're in."

German stared at me.

"What's going on?" I ask, although he says nothing to me.

"If you don't talk to me German, then I'll talk." I reply, "And you won't like what I have to say."

"Try me." he says lifting the cup and inspecting the drink.

"Fine." I say taking a sip of tea, "Did you know that your daughter is preparing for two things?"

"No, I didn't." he says confused, "How would you?"

"Because I saw her today, how matured she is, but also how young and weak she is." I reply.

"So these things..." he says.

"Yes, Violetta is preparing for two life paths." I say, "She's preparing for life as your full time carer at twenty one. That's one thing she is preparing for."

German's hair is scruffy and he hasn't shaved in a while. He runs his hand along his beard.

"And the other thing she is preparing for?" he asks.

"Life without a father."
