Ace swerved her X-Wing around just in time to watch his X-Wing become engulfed in flames, parts of it ripped out and mercilessly flung into space. Blinking in complete and utter astonishment, shock began to slowly overtake Ace's body, consuming every nerve and fiber and cell as she watched, finally realizing how truly helpless she was.
"Ace, Biggs, Wedge," Luke sounded different now, more authoritative, "let's close it up. We're going in. We're going in full throttle."
"Right with you, boss." said one of the pilots, Ace was fairly certain it was Wedge.
Her X-Wing peeled over in midair, diving down for the Death Star with two more X-Wings flanking her; Biggs and Wedge. Luke was already speeding through the trench, headed nose first for the port which was the only weakness for the Death Star. Ace, Biggs, and Wedge would be covering him while he fired the shot that would either bring about the end of the weapon or the end of the rebellion.
"Luke, at that speed, will you be able to pull out in time?" Asked whom Ace assumes to be Biggs, sounding worried.
"It'll be just like beggars canyon at home." Promised Luke.
Despite everything, Ace gave a small snort of amusement.
"Only you would compare blowing up a Death Star to Beggars Canyon, farm boy."
She could hear Luke's small chuckle and Ace couldn't explain the sudden warmth that flooded her body at that noise despite the fact that she was practically flying to her death.
"You'd better fly up to the front," Luke said to her, "Better chance if two of us are firing."
"Roger that." Ace nodded, spurring her X-Wing forward to catch up with Luke's and within moments the two were flying side by side, the walls of the Death Star looming over them.
Glancing over, Ace caught Luke glancing over at her and she gave him a tight lipped smile, which he returned. Nodding her head once, Ace turned her eyes back to outside her windshield, it was time to end this battle.
"We'll stay back far enough to cover you." Biggs said, indicating himself and Wedge.
Ace could hear the sounds of the battle coming from behind her, she could see sparks flying from the corner of her eyes but she refused to turn around. If she did, she wasn't sure if she'd be able to stay on target, she'd fly back and try to help Biggs and Wedge so that at least she'd be able to save some pilots.
"My scope shows the tower, but I️ can't see the exhaust port!" Exclaimed Wedge, "Are you sure the computer can hit it?"
"Lets hope so." Ace told him, gritting her teeth in concentration as everything drew closer.
The Death Star cannons rotated as they almost lazily fired laser bolts at all of the X-Wings. Ace had been doing a pretty decent job of avoiding them, flying high and then low, until suddenly she wasn't.
It hit the hull of her ship indirectly, not enough to cause it to go under, but, with its previous damage, enough to really kriff it up.
Sparks rained down over Ace's head, burning her skin upon impact while part of the control panel completely cut loose, jutting forwards. It's sharp edge sliced into her arm, drawing bright red blood which instantly began to bubble up from the cut as Ace struggled to move her arm.
"Kriff!" She practically shouted, a whimper of pain escaping her as her eyes began to tear up.
"Ace, are you okay?" Came in Luke's once again panicked voice.
