Where The Heart Is

An upturn of the mouth's corners,

One so enticing,

It drew me near

And swallowed me whole.

The darkness of the esophagus,

It frightened me.

But, then,

I heard a heartbeat.

A vibrant noise within the darkness.

I perked up at it,

Hoping to whatever god there is

That it would keep me safe.

My heart synced to the vibrancy.

Two hearts beating as one,

Inside an empty pit.

Beating so perfectly,

I fell in love with the noise.

My only hope,

Was the thumping of life.

My only reason,

My one love,

A heartbeat.

In the heartbeat was safety,

Pureness and comfort,

A home.

After all,

Home is where the heart is.
