Just to say I do NOT own Doctor Who or any of its characters. Only my own characters that I have created for this story.

A/N. Hey guys! This is my first Doctor who fanfic and I hope you enjoy it. I'm afraid that the Doctor doesn't turn up in the first chapter as I'm trying to get my main character sorted. Some aspects of Anna will be based on me but most of them not. I'm certainly not shy, I don't really get bullied and I have a lot of friends. Anna's appearance will be based on me and her ambitions to travel the world. I would love to hear your comments to see if you enjoy this!

I think I'm gonna write up to three chapters to see of people like it and if they do, I'll carry on!

Anyway, enough from me. Enjoy!

CHAPTER ONE

It was just another school day for Annabell Taylor. An average 16 year old girl who couldn't wait to leave school this summer. She was in year 11 and it was the time of year when the school was starting to nag all the students to start revising for their final GCSEs. And she was sick of it.

All she wanted, was to go travelling. She loved exploring new places and seeing the sights. She'd already been to Paris, Rome, Pompeii, and various other places around Europe on school trips and with her Mum. But never America. To be honest it never really appealed to her, although she would like to go to New York at some point. Just to tick it off her bucket list. And the Grand Canyon-

"Anna!"

Anna suddenly snapped out of her daydream. Her maths teacher was looking at her expectantly. Suddenly realising that she had been asked a question Anna looked towards Joe, the boy sat next to her. He just looked at her, nodding as if to say 'go on, you know the answer'.

"Ummmm... I don't know Miss." Anna replied shamefully. She looked down at her hands that were fidgeting with her pen on her desk while the rest of the class smirked at her.

"Well if you stopped daydreaming then maybe you'd know that the formula is the square route of 'x'......" Anna fazed out as she started talking of algebra yet again. Why did she always have to mess up? She put her pen on her desk and leaned back in her chair, letting out a sigh.

"Nice going dreamer" Joe whispered in her ear. She shot him a look.

"Thanks for saving me there hotshot" she muttered back sarcastically. Joe was the closest thing she had to a friend. He was the one who didn't join in the normal jeering in the school yard as she walked by and would actually sit next to her in lessons. He had short, light brown hair that stuck up a little. They got on reasonably well.

"Hey if you were paying attention then you would know the answer. You do know this Anna. Or you should do. The exam's in a couple of months"

"Will you shut up!" Anna said, a little louder than she thought. She let out a sigh as she realised that the class had gone quiet.

"Anna will you step outside with me for a minute please?" Miss Fedrun asked her. Anna shuffled from her chair to the door, letting her long, light brown hair fall on front of her face. Dammit. Why did she always have to get in trouble. It wasn't even her fault this time, Joe was the one talking.

Miss Fedrun shut the door behind them and turned to face her.

"Anna, do you mind telling me why you were talking with Joe at the back?" So she did know that Joe was talking too. Bitch. Why'd she have to single out her?

Anna made no reply and just glared at her shoes.

"Anna, I need you to listen to me. I know that the last few months have been hard for you with you dad leaving home, but you've had enough time to recover now and you need to focus on your school work. I've noticed that your grades have been slipping and that you're repeatedly late with your homework. I've been turning a blind eye to it so far but it needs to stop now. Go on, go back inside and sit down."

What a lecture. Anna scuffed her feet as she walked back to her allotted chair at the back, next to the window. Miss Fedrun carried on with the lesson as if nothing had happened. Joe leaned over to talk to her.

"What was that about?"

Anna looked at him. He looked genuinely concerned.

"Nothing. Just going on about how I should pay more attention blah blah blah." She lied. Joe knew about her dad. Everyone knew about her dad. It was the topic of every bullying act towards her for about a month after it happened.

"Ha. Classic Miss Fedrun. But you should you know. Pay more attention that is, you're smart."

The bell went to mark the end of the lesson and everyone started packing up their stuff.

"Thanks" she replied with a shy smile. "Hey, do you wanna grab lunch together or..?"

"Sorry, playing football with the lads today. I'll see you in physics next lesson shorty." Joe replies with a smile and a wink. He then grabs his bag and walks out the door. Her height was the only thing that Joe would tease her about. She was 5ft 1"

"Okay" Anna couldn't help but feel the sinking in her heart. Another lunchtime, alone in the lunch hall. Someone would probably throw carrots in her hair or something similar.

She dawdled down the corridor, looking out for any feet that would trip her up 'accidentally'.

------

After washing her face of the flicked gravy from people in the lunch hall, Anna decided to head to the library for the rest of lunch. It was the least likely place that the bullies would find her as they don't seem to understand the concept of reading an actual book. She was absorbed into this science-fiction book where a guy was stranded on a future mission to Mars. He had to find a way to contact Earth before his supplies ran out and it was quite gripping. She only came back to reality when Mr. Gratham, the librarian, came and told her that lunch was over.

She dutifully placed the book back on its shelf and started walking to physics class.
