"What are you doing here?" Harry asks rudely. I don't exactly hide behind him, but I try to shield myself from her view as much as possible. The last thing Valerie needs to find out is that Harry is fooling around with his assistant...again.
"Spending an evening with some old friends," Valerie smiles, not insulted one bit by Harry's rude tone. She walks closer to my boss and I get a good look at her for the first time.
Valerie, as I expected, is absolutely gorgeous, a thousand times prettier than I will ever be. I can see men from all around the room eyeing her the same way they were looking at me earlier. Her dress is tight, short, black, and has a very revealing dip in the back that almost exposes her butt. Yet she manages to pull it off, her long caramel hair cascading in waves down her back. Her ice blue eyes narrow and she says, "I've been waiting for you to realize what a mistake it was to fire me."
"Is that so?" Harry is not amused as she bites her lip and bats her eyelashes at him. I stay where I am, silent, willing for her not to notice me.
"Mhmm," she nods.
"I hope you haven't been holding your breath. Oxygen deprivation kills brain cells, and you never had many in the first place."
Valerie's jaw drops at Harry's comment, and I let out a loud giggle before I can stop myself. The girl's eyes immediately focus on me and I fall silent, though a smile remains on my lips.
"Who's this?" Valerie points a manicured finger at me. "Just kidding, I know exactly who she is. Apparently you have a fetish for f ucking your secretaries, huh Harry?"
I open my mouth angrily but Harry beats me to the chase. Somehow, he keeps his cool. "Your claws are showing, Valerie. And if you don't mind, we were kind of in the middle of something."
"In the middle of something? Well, I'm not going to pretend I don't know what that means..." Valerie gives me a withering look but I stand strong, determined not to let her get to me. "And that's fine, Harry. We'll have plenty of time to catch up after the auction...on our date."
"You don't have that much money," Harry scoffs.
"Oh, did I forget to mention that I inherited my uncle's entire estate?" Valerie grins evilly. "See you later, Harry."
She saunters away, bumping my shoulder roughly as she passes me. I silently flip her off from behind, not caring if other people see me. What a bitch.
"So..." I turn back to Harry. "That was Valerie."
"That was Valerie," he repeats. Then he closes his eyes like he has an awful headache, which there's a good possibility he does. "God, I hate her so much."
"Me too," I sigh, even though I only met her five minutes ago. Harry grabs my hand again and we walk back to the table, forgetting about the little spat we were having before Valerie showed up. It would have been a stupid argument anyways.

"1,000 dollars!"
Edward shakes his head, pointing at me once again. "1,000 dollars to the lady over here! Going once, going twice-"
"1500!" a lady across the room shouts.
"1500! Going once, going twice, sold!"
The room claps politely as the bachelor waves and returns to his seat. Harry gives me another glare from his position and the stage and I wave cheerfully back at him. All night, I have been betting on every man and then backing out at the last minute. I'm teasing him, and Harry knows it.
