CHAPTER 40

When I walk into the office, Harry is sitting at his desk just as I expected. He stands up as soon as he sees me, smiling slightly. "Good morning, Leah."

I am taken aback by his cheerful greeting and smile so it takes me a minute to respond. "Um, good morning."

"Would you like a cup of coffee?" he asks politely, gesturing to his expensive coffeemaker that sits at the back of his office.

"Not really," I say. "What I would really like is to know why there's a huge sign with our initials in a heart hanging outside your window."

"Oh, so you saw my sign."

He's avoiding my question. I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest.

"Yeah, it was kind of hard to miss," I say sarcastically.

"Yes, it is rather large, isn't it?" he muses. I frown in confusion. This entire weekend I was under the impression that he was beyond furious with me. After all, the last thing he said to me was that I turned out to be a bitch. So signs confessing his love for me and big smiles were not what I was expecting from this morning.

"Did you do it to embarrass me?" I ask him, cutting to the chase. I don't know what he thinks he's doing to me but I'm done with playing games.

"What? Why would you-"

"People were laughing at me downstairs, in the lobby. It was kind of humiliating," I tell him in a frosty voice. "I get that you hate me now and everything, but really, Harry, we're grown adults. Or at least one of us is." I look him up and down so he knows I'm definitely not referring to him as the mature one in this situation.

"Why do you think I hate you?" His tone is verging on anger. Instead of answering, I roll my eyes and start to leave the office, but he grabs my wrist. "Leah, answer me!"

"Um, I don't know, maybe because the last thing you said to me before this morning is that I turned out to be a total bitch? That doesn't exactly scream positivity," I snap, my voice rising in volume.

Harry laughs nervously. "I was mad, I wasn't thinking. But after that I thought a whole lot about everything, about us, and..."

"Save it, Harry," I cut him off, suddenly feeling exhausted. I already know what he's going to say- how he just isn't ready for a relationship right now, how he just doesn't do girlfriends, and right, let's not forget to mention how the whole CD mess is just the icing on the top of the cake.

He's momentarily surprised by the lack of emotion in my voice, and I take advantage of his distracted state to yank my arm out of his grasp and begin to flee his office. I only make it a couple of steps before both of Harry's hands shoot out, grabbing my shoulders and turning me to face him. His grip is tight and I know there is no way I can escape now.

"Don't you dare try and leave this fucking office again," he all but growls.

"What is your problem!?" I shout. When he doesn't answer, I let out a frustrated groan. "What the hell do you want, Harry?"

"Fine!" He shouts back, just as angrily. "I'll tell you what I want! I want you! All I've ever wanted is you since the day you walked in here with your damn baggy skirts and your sad eyes! I've been going insane in my office every day, just watching you, trying to figure out some reason why I'm so infatuated with my own damn secretary. You drive me insane, literally, but that's how I realized- I am completely and madly in love with you."
