CHAPTER 24
The rest of the week flies by quickly and before I know it Friday has come. Liam and I got together a couple of mornings this week and I can tell he's nervous/excited about our date today. If I'm being honest, I've been so caught up in work and figuring out Harry's attitude that I haven't thought about it much.
Never before have I been so hooked on capturing a guy's attention. The main reason I'm so determined is because I know that there's a possibility that Harry does want to be with me. He just needs a little push, a little persuading.
Yet now it's Friday and he's been listening to my CD all week, and nothing has changed. He still avoids all personal discussions and gets angry about my outfits. He's still scared.
It's exasperating.
I know Harry told me that I could take off after lunch today but for some reason I find myself staying in my office even after I've eaten. I've already packed for D.C. and I want to finish the report I'm working on. There's no reason for me to go home.
I finish the report and head absentmindedly to the mailroom so that I can deliver them. Once I get finish, I begin walking back to my office but slow my steps when I hear voices inside.
"How's it going? I'm Liam."
My eyes widen in shock and I check my watch, mentally cursing myself when I see it's past five o'clock. Liam said he would pick me up from work but I didn't realize that he was going to actually come up to my office.
"What are you doing in here?" Another voice replies very rudely. Harry.
I groan and hit my hand on my forehead. Could this situation get any more awkward? I start walking for the door but then pause when I see the expression on Harry's face. His eyes are green, as usual, but they're green with what looks like jealously.
Interesting.
Their heads both pop up to look at me as I enter my office. Liam grins happily in my direction, oblivious to the tension in the room. Harry simply glares at me.
"Hi, Harry, did you need something?" I smile sweetly at him, just daring him to say something about Liam's presence. He scowls at me.
"Just...no, no I don't need anything," he finally answers and my smile grows bigger yet.
"Great. Liam and I were about to head off for some dinner," I inform him, walking over to Liam's side. I wrap my arm around his muscular one and he seems surprised for a second but then relaxes into me.
"You two have a good time, then." Harry forces a painful smile and Liam nudges my side curiously. I can't blame him; Harry's acting like he's about to shit his pants or something.
I grab my bag and Liam begins leading us out the door, but Harry stops us. "Leah, can I talk to you for a minute?" he asks with his strained smile.
I look at Liam and he nods, stepping out the door and closing it behind him. I hitch my bag over my shoulder and turn around to face my boss, crossing my arms. "What?"
"Please tell me you're not interested in that fool," he growls.
"That fool?" I narrow my eyes. "That fool happens to be very nice and funny, and actually cares about me."
"Oh, so I don't care about you?"
I snort. "I think we both know the answer to that question, Harry."
