CHAPTER 29
A knock on the door rouses me from the show I am watching on the TV. I jump up and hurry over, turning the knob without bothering to look through the peephole.
"Hey, C-"
I scowl when I see Harry standing there instead of the bellhop I was expecting. I step aside to let him in, wrinkling my nose at his sweat stained attire. The scenario makes me remember the one time I walked in on him working out in his office. Things were so different back then; it seems like a whole lifetime ago.
"Sorry, I forgot my key," Harry explains, still sounding a bit angry. But he doesn't know that I know that it's all an act and that he really doesn't have any interest in Jennifer.
"Okay," I say simply, sitting back down on the couch and resuming my show. Harry hesitates, leaning against the door to his side of the room.
"I'm going to go take a shower."
"Whatever."
When he realizes that I have no interest in talking with him, much less apologizing for what I said to Jen, he finally disappears into his bedroom and minutes later I hear the shower running. And then only few seconds after that, there's another knock on the door. Finally.
When I open the door, this time Collin really is standing there with a tray in his hands that holds a kettle and some cups. Too bad I'm not really in the mood for tea, I only said that because it was the first thing that popped into my mind.
"Come in!" I smile, standing back to let him enter the room and set down the tray of tea.
"Will that be all, Miss Evans?" Collin asks, standing with his arms crossed behind his back.
"Please, call me Leah," I grin, even going as far as to bat my eyelashes. I've never been very good at flirting but at least I can get some practice in right now.
"Okay, Leah, enjoy your tea," he laughs, then begins leaving the room. I panic and grab his arm, plastering a giant smile back onto my face.
"Wait! Aren't you going to serve me?"
"We don't typically-"
"Are you telling me," I say, crossing my arms, "That this hotel, which is by far the fanciest hotel I've ever stayed at, doesn't even serve their guests tea? Interesting."
Collin looks rather alarmed. "Yes, of course we serve tea!"
I sit back down on the couch and point to the coffee table. "Then you better get to it."
"Right away, Miss Evans. I mean, Leah. Sorry," he says, getting flustered as he trips over his words. For a minute I feel bad about using him, but then I hear Harry's shower water turn off and the feeling fades.
"Collin, hurry up!" I hiss, trying not to sound too annoying. I need the guy to like me, after all.
"Sorry, here you go," he says, handing me the cup of tea. I take a big sip and almost spit it out because it's so disgusting but manage to swallow it and then set the cup back on the table, coughing slightly.
"Is that all?"
"Sit down," I all but demand, patting the seat on the couch next to me. I'm running out of time, Harry's going to come out of his room any minute now and Collin won't even look at me.
"What?"
"Collin, for the love of all things holy, please just sit down," I snap, and he finally obliges, plopping down next to me.
