Thomas' POV
I couldn't remember anything. Only from the Box.
All other memories were things like someone teaching me how to ride a bike, but they had no face. No vivid memories, everything that every made me, me was gone.
I didn't know where I was, I didn't know who I was, I didn't know my purpose. It wasn't fair. To put someone in a place like this. This was Hell.
The people were nice, I guess, they had too many rules.
Don't go here after dark, don't go into the Maze, don't go into here, don't do this, don't do that. What's the point of living if there isn't any freedom?
Newt was the nicest leader, he gave me genuine instructions and led me in a decent direction. Gally was the asshole.
He hated me. I wasn't sure why but the way he acted when I came up, he acted like he knew me, and when I asked him about it, he called me a 'stupid shank' and ran off.
Chuck was my favorite.
He wasn't a leader, but he was the comforting little brother that I needed to help adjust to my new environment. He explained stuff, sometime too much and too long, sometimes I wish he'd just shut up.
The Glade was horrifying at night. When the walls closed and I could hear the screaming from the Grievers.
This place was actual hell on Earth and I had no idea how we were going to get out of here.
It's not like they could let me help. I thought I could do something to help.
Being helpful outside of the Glade was impossible.
I'd rather be dead than live here.
Blake's POV
"I said I was changing!" I shouted, standing up. "It's rude to barge into someone's room like that."
"I apologize," Ava said, a stack of files in her arms. "You weren't answering."
"I'm sorry for yelling." I said as she handed me the stack.
"In the files, you have a brief characteristic description of each Glader, then a full history background from before the Maze up until last week," she explained. "The new Glader has a long history, so don't be up all night reading it."
"Yes, ma'am, thank you again."
"You're very welcome," she said to me. "We expect a lot from you."
I nodded as she turned and left, leaving me in the room alone. I slowly slid to the floor as I unfolded the letter, finding my spot again.
I saw them kidnapping someone off the street. Kids. Away from their parents.
At first, it didn't phase me as strange, just trying to keep everyone safe, understandable. But when they shot their parents right in front of them, that was wrong. After that, I watched them come here, waiting to see what they did with the kids.
But they didn't have them.
WICKED was performing some kind of secret operation and I was going to find out what it was.
If you read this, please don't tell them I know. I'm going to fix this, I'm gonna do the right thing.
Maybe you'll help.
Thomas
He threw himself in the middle of a secret operation, he disobeyed WICKED. Thomas was smart, he should have known that putting himself there was wrong.
I searched through the files until I saw his name, flipping it open.
Then, I read.
Subject is defiant, doesn't like to listen to authority figures.
Subject gets too involved too quick and has his own set of morals that are only right in his head. He's determined to do what he thinks is right, no matter the consequences.
In the Glade, he's hostile towards people like Gally, but softer towards people like Chuck.
Subject survival rating: 91%
They rated their ability to survive? That's sickening.
How can they shove these kids into a unknown place, not only that but an unknown dangerous place and expect them to be able to fight on their own.
Be able to survive.
The hardest part was going to have to watch.
And not being able to do anything about it.
