Hey guyssss, I just recently went to Books A Million and searched for a new book to read and I decided to tell you guys some of the books that I've read in the past and currently.
Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority by Tom Burrell
This book is honestly very eye-opening. It explains how African Americans are still affected by the traumas of racism and slavery. An example of what the book is talking about is why so many Black fathers leave their children with the mother to fend for themselves. Tom Burrell always traces issues from today and explains how it happened during slavery and how we are just in a never ending cycle of being inferior to white people. I'm reading it currently and I'll keep you guys updated on how the book turns out.The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander
I first heard about this book after watching '13th' and from there I really wanted to read the book. I got this book around November of last year and I still haven't finished it. The book isn't that long, it's just filled with so much information how when the 13th amendment went into play, how Jim Crow affect Blacks during the civil rights movement and how the War On Drugs is one of the main reasons why so many Black and Latino Americans are placed in prison. Alexander always brings up the after effects formerly incarcerated men and women go through when they try to get housing, or a job. If you are interested in law enforcement, and mass incarceration then this is the book for you.40 Million Dollar Slaves by William C. Rhoden
This book was honestly very surprising. I didn't think that I would like or understand the story due to it being about athletes being considered '40 million dollar slaves.' I first heard this book in a podcast that I've spoken about in previous chapters called, The Grapevine. The topic of the episode was Lavar Ball. They spoke on how Lavar wasn't going to let his three sons, Lonzo, LiAngelo, and Lamelo get used by the NBA and that is why Lavar created BBB (Big Baller Brand). One of the speakers brought up '40 Million Dollar Slaves' and explained that the book is a break down of how big organizations like the NFL and the NBA was using Black athletes and their talents and paying/treating them like the bare minimum.Shameless promo:
Check out my new story, 'summer daze.' It's about 5 teens who have a great summer. I know it sounds corny and cliche, but I promise it won't be like everything else.
