After three days, Hannah wakes up and comes slowly to herself. The nurse takes care of her very well.
"How did I get here?", she breathes.
"You were hit by a truck. But you've been extremely lucky you're fine except a few bruises and a concussion.", she replies.
Hannah looks at her arms and around the infirmary. Hoses go from her arms. Hannah becomes panic and asks frantically:
"Am I in Arkham?!"
"Yeah, calm down, everything will be fine.", the nurse tries to reassure her.
Hannah wants to get up, but she gently pushes Hannah back to her bed on her shoulder. Hannah grabs her arm firmly with both hands and does not let her go.
"Listen. I can't stay here. Please take me to another psychiatry, I have to get out of here!", Hannah stutters with glassy eyes.
"But there are none in Gotham except Arkham Asylum.", she replies calmly.
"Please, I'm scared. He will fetch me!", she begs the sister.
"Who will get you?", she asks.
Suddenly two patients pass by in the hallway in front of the infirmary and have a conversation.
"Have you ever heard. The little girlfriend of Jerome is back here.", says one.
"I don't want to get stuck in her skin, he'll surely kill her.", replies the other.
Laughing, both go on. Hannah and the nurse overheard the conversation and Hannah sits up with a panicky puff.
"Do you mean the patient E-146 Jerome Valeska? Don't worry, my sweetie, he's safe behind closed doors.", she soothes Hannah.
The nurse grins at her. Hannah runs down a tear, but she grins back. She gently wipes her tear away. Hannah lies down again and takes a deep breath. The nurse gets up and prepares the noon meal.
"Aren't you afraid of me?", Hannah asks.
"I killed people and did bad things."
"I always see the positive side in people. None of these people in my opinion is a bad person, they are just sick. Nobody is born sick, everyone has suffered something that made them sick. False education, getting into the wrong car or trusting the wrong person. But that's not their fault, just like yours.", the nurse replies gently.
Hannah looks at her fascinated and feels very strongly addressed.
"What's your name?", Hannah asks the nurse.
"Rose.", she answers shortly.
Rose, Hannah whispers softly to herself.
Already the next day Hannah can get up carefully and walk to the corridor with her stand on which the infusion bag hangs. Hannah is still very weak, but from day to day she is getting better and better. She starts having nice talks with other patients and sister Rose continues to take care of her. But after a week, Hannah does not need the infirmary anymore and she is taken to her personal cell. Only a few cells away is Jerome and during Hannah's stay wasn't sitting around quietly. Because just a cell further is Jervis Tetch the hypnotist. The two have known each other for over a year now, since Jerome was brought back to Arkham.
"Jervis, now I need your help.", Jerome continues a cell.
They can talk to each other through a small, barred window at the bottom of the floor.
"Do you have it?", Jervis asks him.
Jerome opens his hand and inside is a small pocket watch. He pushes it carefully through a gap in the bars. Grinning, Jervis reaches for it.
"She was brought to her cell today so let's start today.", Jerome grins.
After about 10 minutes, the guards come and bring the breakfast to the door through a flap on the door. When the guard just wants to push the food through Jervis's door, he stands in front of him and lifts up the pocket watch.
"Do you hear the ticking? Listen carefully.", he says purposefully to him.
Without stopping, he listens to the clock ticking and the ticking gets louder and louder until he is in a trance.
"You are now under my control and doing what I tell you.", he adds in a stern voice.
"You're opening the door now, just like cell E-146."
Without protest, the guard picks up the keys from his trouser pocket and unlocks the door. After that, he goes to Jerome's and locks it up as well. Both leave their cells and flabbergasted Jerome looks at Jervis.
"That's incredible.", he replies enthusiastically.
Jervis grins proudly and goes with the hypnotized guard to cell E-120, Hannah ones. The guard unlocks it and quietly Jerome enters the cell. Hannah is still sleeping and carefully he carries her out. All four go down the hallway to the labs. Jervis orders the man to send the guards from the laboratories away, which he does without argument. Jerome enters a lab with Hannah in her arms and Jervis waits outside with the security guard. He gently puts her on a lounger with iron shackles for feet and arms. He closes the shackles and fetches an apparatus from an adjoining room. That's when Hannah wakes up slowly. But she immediately panics when she sees that she is tied up. With a smile, Jerome enters the room again. Hannah is out of breath when she sees him again for the first time after a year. Her eyes fill with tears and she looks at him intensely.
"Please don't kill me.", she cries.
"I won't kill you ... but I want that you won't do that again, so I'm gonna hurt you and not just a bit, I'm gonna hurt you a lot." he replies.
