Regular POV.
Being back was hard. After all the relaxation and love after being in Austria for two weeks, the circus was just so exhausting. Well, it had always been exhausting but this was different. All Anne wanted to do was sleep- but maybe she was coming up with the flu. After all, it was only 8:15 am, and she had already taken three trips to the bathroom to throw up, and today she was staying at home.
Phillip was a whirlwind around their bedroom, getting dressed. He was saying things like, "bloody circus rehearsals, always so early," and "I miss Austria so much!" After a bit, he slowed down and sat on the edge of their bed, where Anne lay.
"Will you be alright, love? How do you feel?"
"Absolutely awful," Anne started, "and not to mention tired." Phillip frowned, caressing his wife's cheek.
"Hm. Maybe we should get you checked up. I'll set an appoinment this afternoon at the circus, you just stay here and relax, love."
He says all this mostly to himself, as his wife drifts off towards sleep.
He leaves, and after twenty minutes or so, Anne feels the heaving that she recognises as 'vomit alarm'. Knowing this, she jumps out of the bed and runs into the bathroom just in time.
Ugh. She thinks, as she rinses her mouth, why today? Today was meant to be a good day. Today, Phillip and I were supposed to be on a date.
But, knowing she can't change anything , she starts doing the cleaning around the house. At around midday, she hears a knock on the door. Opening it, Anne sees her friend Lettie standing on the doorstep.
"Lettie! How are you?" Anne shouts out, hugging her good friend. Lettie chuckles and takes off her coat.
"Fine, and I won't ask how you are, since we already know the answer. Phillip's busy at the circus, so I came to check on you." Lettie says this, but purses her mouth as if she wanted to say much more.
"Well, thank you. Come on in for a cup of tea." Anne offers kindly.
After a while of sitting at the table, stirring her drink, Lettie looks up. She had to say it now, or it would get the better of her. Anne was a friend, and she deserved to know.
"Anne," Lettie began, as the dark skinned girl looked up from her cup. "Anne, from the things I've heard...Anne, I think you might be pregnant."
Being the very rational and grounded girl she was, Anne stayed calm on the outside while she enternally screamed and stared freaking out.
"Oh my gosh. You're right. The doctor's coming this afternoon, Lettie." Anne said quietly. As much as she wanted a child, she didn't think it was ready. Then she thought of Phillip's face, lighting up whenever he saw the Barnum girls, Caroline and Helen and how happy he would be if he became a father.
"Lettie...I might be pregnant. I might be a mother."Cliffhanger! Sorry for the short chapter 😢, but I hope you enjoy. Thank you for all the votes but follow too please!!
