Dear Anne and W.D,
Why don't we play a little game? We haven't played them in a while now, have we? Okay, I'm going to tell you some things about me, and then you can guess.
My name Gifty and I'm 56 years old. I'm like you, so I'm black, and I have three kids. I'm a sad woman, or rather I was a sad woman, because recently something has lifted my spirits up.
It was finding you!
Yes, I'm your mother! I still can't believe I'm writing this letter to you! When we got separated, 12 years ago, I can't tell you how sad I got. It was a sadness that I couldn't tame, the one of losing my children.
But you would know, wouldn't you, Anne? I guess I might be upsetting you, but I simply do not care anymore. I love you, but these words must be said outright.
Anne, I'm sorry I didn't get to see you grow. Gosh, I still don't even know what you look like! Oh, W.D, are you still playing the protective big brother card? I bet you are!!
Look, by the time you get this I am probably two days away from arriving in New York. Surprise, your absent mother is paying you a visit!
Your father dumped me shortly after we got separated with you. Oh, that nasty bastard! But I found love afterwards, to a man called Damien. He's lovely, this Damien, he really is. I'm sure you'll like him- plus, he can't wait to meet you. And neither can Greta!
Greta is your 20 year old sister! She's lovely and has wanted to meet you boh for a very long time.
I'm sorry to push all this on you in one letter, but there really is no other way about it. I haven't spent much time with you either, so I don't know what either of you are like, I'm sorry if any of this is touchy for you.
I met a certain Jenny Lind a couple of weeks ago. We talked for a little bit, we made the connection shortly after. She only told me the basic, main points:
- Anne was married to a white man. Honey...this infuriated me, and still does, but I refuse to make judgements until I meet him (or you, for the fact)!!
- Anne had a child called Elissa, but she died. Now she has a baby daughter called Six-Olivia. I can't wait to meet my granddaughter!
- You are trapezists in a circus. A lame point, but I guess important.
- W.D, unlike his sister, has no family apart from Anne.
And that, my children, is why I'm coming to you! I hope to see you both soon. Take care (and I home you have these last 12 years).
Your mother, Gifty.Hey guys! I'm honestly feeling like crap & no joke topping myself sounds like a good idea.
This was the only thing I had in me. Sorry if it's a little unsatisfactory :(.
- Alice
