CHAPTER 21

I wake up in a hospital bed. Shane is sitting next to me. "Ally baby you're awake".

"What happened? I was walking back to my office to get ready for our appointment and I don't remember anything after that".

He looks at me not saying a word. "Oh my God did I lose the baby?" I start to panic and tears run.

Shane squeezes my hand and let's me know everything is alright "no you didn't lose the baby, I was walking in when Miranda found you and I picked you up and rushed you to the hospital". Shane stares at me some more, my tears are running and I know he's mad at me.

I start explaining myself "I swear I just had three meetings and then I was taking the afternoon off".

"Alexandra" is all Shane says. Shit he said my whole name. He takes a breath and starts speaking trying to control his temper "I have been telling you to take it easy, but you keep pushing yourself and you won't listen" he stops he's really angry at me. He starts speaking again "the doctor said you and the baby will be fine, yiu are exhausted. He has left our first couple ultrasound for when you are awake, but nothing seems to be wrong with the baby, he wants you on bed rest for atleast three days". I stare at him saying nothing.

Shane makes it clear "that means no going into the office no meetings, and if there are your, assistant can take notes" I nod. "Now Alexandra the doctor will be here in a few minutes they know you are awake, and we will get to see our baby" I stay silent and nod again.

I finall find my voice "Shane, I'm sorry I love you and this baby more than anything, I just didn't factor in how much it would change once I got pregnant, I will tell Miranda, she will keep it quiet, so she knows why I'm not coming in for a few days. I will just stop by on Friday before we leave for Bora-Bora and leave instructions and no work till I'm back" Shane looks at me coldly. All he says is "Ok".

My doctor comes in, Dr Matthews. "Miss Draven, you had quite the scare, you are suffering from exhaustion and dehydration, bed rest for the week and a good eating plan will be provided. I will give you extra iron pills and something for the nausea, are you ready to see your baby?" I nod looking at Shane, he nods.

He takes my hand, ok so he's maybe not that mad. The doctor puts gel on my belly and uses the wand to find our baby, you are about nine to ten weeks now, I think you wil be able to hear a little heartbeat, let's see now" she says. "Here your baby is on the screen quite a nice size".

We look stunned and then Shane looks at me. "There's our baby, we done that" Shane says softly, the next thing we hear is a tiny heartbeat.

Doctor Matthews continues with the ultrasound "your baby is strong, and healthy, but you need to take care of yourself now Miss Draven, you can work but not hard, no late nights and skipping meals".

"Of course doctor" I answer.

Shane is smiling still listening. "You can go home now, but straight to bed".

"Yes doctor" I say obediently. Shane brings me my clothes a black pants and black blazer with a white silk t-shirt underneath and my heels. I get dressed and get my pills from the doctor. Shane is silent on the drive home, I say nothing, I'm not poking the bear. We get home and I change into sweat pants and a hoodie and slippers, he's making me lunch, he brings it up to me in bed, a chicken ceasar salad with honey and mustard dressing, and a cup of tea.

Shane finally speaks "I have to go back to the office now, I won't be too long an hour or two, get some sleep and I will see you soon" I nod. He kisses my forehead and he's out the door. I eat and have my tea and put in a movie, the Devil Wears Prada and then I put on Pride and Prejudice. I know he's mad at me, I cry a little and I fall asleep.
