"Surely the apple is the noblest of fruits."
Nathan's POV
I got a notification from Bea, so I opened my messages app with trembling fingers. I didn't know what to expect.
Was she still mad at me? I hope not. I wonder what Ellie was talking about? Is that why Bea lost her mind on me? Only one way to find out. I stared at the screen as a message from the Bee popped up.
Messages
Bee 🐝Hey.
Hey. Can we talk, like call?
No.
Why not?
Cause I'll make a fool of myself.
How so?
You're supposed to say, "No you won't Bee."
I smiled, sensing humor behind the typed words. It wasn't a call, but at least she was contacting me.
Sure.
Ugh, I'm sorry for blowing up at you. That was uncalled for.
It's okay Bee, wanna talk about it?
Not yet, soon Gnat. Promise.
I'll only believe you when you put an I before the promise.
Fine, I promise. Happy?
Indeed, now can I call you?
Maybe tomorrow, I'm tired Gnat.
That's cool, g'night Bee.
Night Nate.
I smiled and sat my phone down on the kitchen counter.
"You and Bea make up?"
"Yeah. Wait, how'd you know?"
"First time you've smiled since the fight."
"Shut up."
"I'll shut up when you wipe that dorky smile off your face."
"Shut up."
