"There is hardship in everything except eating pancakes."

"So, how you doing Nate?"

"You're not getting out of this."

"But Nathan-"

"A promise is a promise Bea."

"Alright fine, lemme mentally prepare myself."

"This is taking an awfully long time for you to mentally prepare yourself."

"Okay okay, I don't know how to start this."

"Just take a deep breath, and go for it."

"Okay, I was born seven years after Ellie and ten years after my brother Alan, and let's say my birth wasn't exactly planned. Or wanted. We lived in this huge fancy suburban home, my parents were both doctors, retired now. They never liked me, at all. They treated me like a servant, and Alan for some reason was especially nasty to me. Luckily, Ellie didn't hate me, and we became best friends. The day she went off to college broke me, there was no one to defend me. However, Alan had finished college at that point. He's now married to a girl, Lila, and she doesn't even know I exist. Which kind of sucks, knowing your own sister-in-law isn't aware of your existence, but whatever. From what Ellie's told me, they have two little girls too. Delilah who's eleven, and Dahlia who's six. Anyway, Ellie married this really nice guy, Corey. However, Corey is a businessman so he travels a lot and can't take Auggie and Ellie. They live here actually."

"Bee, is there some chance you've been lying to me?"

"Yes, look Nate I'm sorry, I really am. I'm going to tell you the truth now."

"Just make it worth it Bea."

"So, where I'm living, is actually Ellie and Corey's house. I'm living here while I wait for the call back. I swear I haven't lied about anything else."

"It's okay Bee, it's really not that big a deal."

"Oh thank god. Okay, here's the serious part. When I was five, I got sick. I had gotten sick before obviously but for some reason this was really bad. It started out as the stomach bug, and it wasn't bad, but then it got significantly worse. It lasted for about a week, and it just wouldn't go away. I was puking left and right, and Ellie called her friend who had a sister with a drivers license. They drove me to the ER, where they did a ton of tests and threw me on fluids. They told me my immune system was getting progressively weaker, and really wasn't able to fight any sickness too well. Of course, I also happen to have low IGA levels, which basically means I get sick quite a bit. Therefore, I'm at the hospital quite a bit, because once I get sick, it's easier for me to just go there and get into an environment where they can treat me better. Luckily for me, and knock on wood, I haven't been there in over a month, which is pretty cool. Anyway, I just want to get a job and stop living off my parents money, but I can't do that considering I'm not exactly dependable. I'd love to be able to pay for everything myself, especially all the hospital shit."

"Wow Bee, is your immune system still that bad?"

"Well yes, it's a little worse actually but I'm sure it'll get better. There's not much they can do though."

"I hope it'll get better Bee. I really do."

"Yeah."

"You should get some sleep y'know."

"So should you."

"Probably, night Bea."

"Night Nate."
