The Burnt Offering

(Leviticus 1:1-17)

The Lord summoned Moses and spoke to him from the tabernacle of meeting, saying,

"Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, 'When any one of you brings an offering to the Lord, you shall present your offering from the livestock, from the herd or the flock.'

"If his offering is a burnt sacrifice from the herd, he shall offer a male without defect. He must present it of his own free will at the entrance of the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord.

"He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.

"He shall slaughter the bull before the Lord; and Aaron's sons, the priests, shall present the blood and sprinkle the blood all around on the altar that is at the entrance of the tabernacle of meeting.

He shall skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.

Aaron's sons, the priests, shall place fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.

The priests, Aaron's sons, shall arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, on the wood that is on the fire on the altar.

He shall wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest shall burn all of it on the altar as a burnt offering, a fire offering of a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

If the offering is from the flock, whether sheep or goats, for a burnt offering, he shall present a male without defect.

He shall slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the Lord, and Aaron's sons, the priests, shall sprinkle its blood around the altar.

He shall then cut it into pieces, including its head and fat, and the priest shall arrange them on the wood that is burning on the altar.

He must wash the internal organs and the legs with water, and the priest shall offer all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, a fire sacrifice, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

If his offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, then he shall present his offering of turtledoves or young pigeons.

The priest shall bring it to the altar, decapitate it, and burn it on the altar; its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar.

He shall remove its crop with its contents and discard it beside the altar on the east side, in the place for ashes.

He shall split it open by its wings without dividing it completely. Then the priest shall burn it on the altar on top of the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
