A/N: More free time = MORE UPDATESSS! This is the... third chapter? Idk but it's soooo long! RIP, thumbs. Well hope u enjoy ima keep the A/N short this time. Oh and since it's so long I might cut it into different parts You'll able to tell by the chapter name. To the story:
So, as you can imagine, I went to school the next day and 10 boy & I were new BESTIES! You could tell by the way I glared at him from across the cafeteria, sitting at my lonely table. Every girl in the school seemed to hate me ever since my detention for looking at him. Even female teachers. And you won't believe this, but there as actually a FAN-CLUB at school just for him- and of course Trinity the traitor was in it.
"Is this seat taken?" I heard a male voice ask. I looked up from the napkin I was tearing to bits to see Elias, my other best-- I mean my best friend. At least he's male, I thought to myself. He can't be influenced unless he's g- wait...
"Hey, do you like the new boy?" I asked him cautiously.
"Pfft, nah. Bit of a show off if you ask me." He replied, much to my relief. Oh yeah, that's who I forgot. He knows I know who people are. I don't like to call it a 'power' too often, because last time I looked in the mirror, I got a 9. Description: She knows your limits. Scary, am I right?
I told Elias about my power last year, he didn't take it too badly... only freaked out and screamed into a pillow from the couch in my house. When he got over the shock, he asked me what number he was
"1" I joked.
"Seriously." He said.
"4. Last year you were a 3. Did u do Karate or something?" I had asked him. Joking about it made it him less shocked. Or more, I couldn't tell.
"Taekwondo, actually." He corrected. We laughed. So now he's cool with it. Sometimes he will ask a person's name, I'll reply with a number and explanation.
"Anthony?" He asked.
"10. 'A lot'."
"What's 'a lot'?"
"Description. Have you noticed that the girls are no longer interested in anyone? They're in some kind of trance. No idea what's wrong. Trinity left me for 10 boy yesterday."
"What? No way!"
"Yup."
"Why doesn't he affect you?" He asked. I shrugged.
"Maybe my ability? I have no idea."
"Why do you seem scared?"
"He's the first 10. Ever."
"Whoah! What? No way!"
"Elias, I think he knows."
"What? That he's a 10?"
"Yes, and that I know what other people are."
"Elias, I think he's here to get me," I told him quietly.
"What? Any signs?"
"No... Just this look he gave me ... I dunno, I just have this feeling."
"Quinn, this is serious."
"I know! I'm being serious right now!"
"Ok, how about I come over to your house and we do some research on Anthony?"
"Ok."
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I'm just really glad to have someone to talk to," I told him.
"Hey, you can always talk to me," Elias reassured me. Tears welled up in my eyes. I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly stood up and wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. Lucky for me, he had already put his lunch tray on the table, and it was a second before he hugged me back.
"You know how many rumours this is going to start?" He had to lower his head to whisper in my ear coz that's how short I was. I pulled back abruptly, blushing.
"Sorry," I gulped, expecting him to be angry. He laughed.
"It's fine." He smirked, then he faked disappointment. "You actually thought I would get angry about that?" I laughed.
"Wouldn't want to be caught with the 'rude girl'," I reminded him.
"Oh let them talk." He rolled his eyes. Then the bell rang, announcing the end of lunch.
"See you tonight," I waved and turned to leave.
"Quinn," He stopped me. I turned in reply.
"Thanks. For, you know, trusting me with all this."
I smiled, "Of course."
With that, I walked away, feeling guilty. I hadn't told him everything. When 10 boy and I made eye contact yesterday, apart from his amazing green-blue eyes boring into my soul, he had looked at me with-- was it pity? No. Maybe hesitation or worry? Regret? I don't know, but it was something like that. I didn't know why, but this bothered me. I felt like I shouldn't tell anyone, though I didn't know why it mattered. As I was walking back to class, I startled some birds on the roof of one of the buildings. I had a habit of counting birds. They were Magpies. 7 Magpies. I remember the little Magpie rhyme my mother had taught me when I was little:
1 for sorrow,
2 for joy,
3 for a girl and
4 for a boy.
5 for silver,
6 for gold and
7 for a secret never to be told.
8 for a wish,
9 for a kiss and
10 for something you wouldn't want to miss.
Of course, I had never believed in the Magpie rhyme, though it was a cute little thing to remember from time to time. I smiled at the memory. Nothing usually happens like it says the Magpie rhyme, though I know there are multiple versions... Nah, they're just birds.
Omg this took so long to type up I kept getting distracted by little things xD gosh I'm so tired. I might do another chapter today, no promised though. Thank you once again for reading this story also, is that a ship I see? Or is it just a friendship? Muahahahaha you'll never know >:DD haha or will you? I'll leave it at that and also thank you if you take the time to read these A/N because I know they basically mean nothing but whatever. Also if you like Percy Jackson, Check out Vapour by XxSilverMarexX or even if you don't it's awesome anyway. Thanks again, goodbye.
