A week later, the wedding went on as planned. Clarrise sent a coach to fetch Emily from her house. She gladly accepted it as a token of gratitude from her friend and besides, Emily doesn't have enough coins to hire a carriage to take her to her friend's wedding even though she's a seamstress. But because her customers were not that rich, she didn't demand them with a lot of money. The road to the church was winding but Emily didn't mind as she was looking forward in attending her close friend's wedding.
The white church was quite grand with stained glass all around it. Emily was awed by the beauty of it but nevertheless she never miss glancing at the bridegroom's direction before taking a seat. Jacob was standing in front of the altar greeting everyone with his dazzling smile. Everyone was dressed colourfully but not Emily. She donned herself plainly in a light gray dress with no design in it. It's just a simple dress that is more suited on maid but Emily didn't mind. It's not like she's here to get acquainted with the rest of Clarrise's friends. She sat quietly with an elder woman beside her.
When they both saw each other Emily nodded her head as a sign of acknowledgement towards the old lady. The old woman just gave a small smile before turning her head to look at Jacob. Both of the sat quietly waiting for the bride while Emily was looking everywhere observing everyone. Whereas on the other side of the seat most ladies were seen batting their eyelashes at a gentleman. Though the gentleman remain brooding at his seat. He seem rather preoccupied that he doesn't realised that the woman beside him was trying to converse with him.
The instant Emily saw him, she knew who he was. Darren Blackburn had made himself quite a reputation as a rake and also a ruthless guy. The town folks once said that he is not a man to be trifled with. If anyone offended him, the person may as well be good as dead as he is a very vengeful person. Looking at him now was not a good idea because even by looking at him, you can feel a rather dangerous aura around him. Emily wondered how Clarrise come to know him. Yes, he is a quite a darkly handsome man but the dark feelings around him seem to overshadowed his appearance. After staring at him quite some time, Emily's ear perked up when she heard the huge door opens. As always, Clarrise's brilliance is unquestionable. She looked stunning with her white gown and it make her looked like an angel. Everyone stood in awe when they saw her.
Slowly, she walked down the aisle and her face lit up when she saw her future husband.Seeing her right now makes Emily gave herself a sorrowful smile. She recalled the day when she married to Henry in Gretna Green.
Both of them stood there happily while exchanging rings when suddenly a person charge towards Henry from the back and stabbed him several times. She remembered wailing at Henry's death. The unknown person after stabbing Henry walked away in broad daylight as if nothing had happen. Henry eyes was wide open and blood was pooling around him and his body didn't move. She didn't care whether she was drenched in blood but she just sit there crying over his death. Her eyes was swollen and red when she finished crying. Slowly, she brought herself up and walked away from the dead body.
When there was a sporadic applause, it brought Emily back to the present. She saw her dear friend kissing her husband already. The kiss was long and passionate. Some audience even start to whistle while the others clapped their hands. After that, some went to the both newlywed couple and they congratulate them again. Emily start to walked away and wait for her carriage outside. The cloud outside seem threatening but her carriage has not yet made it way here. The first drop of water landed on her nose and it start to drizzle. Emily was cursing under her breath when a carriage suddenly came to a halt. She made her way to the carriage and flung open the door herself and heave a sigh as she closes her eyes.
" You do have the audacity to sit in my carriage." At once, her eyes flew open and saw the man sitting opposite her. His gray eyes were boring at her. "Sorry sir, I didn't know it was your carriage, I thought it was my friend's." She replied. Her face remain placid while looking at him.
