8-Uncovering a different side

Darren was busy working on his shipment letters when Mr. Hastings came into the room. He was a bit temperamental today as loads of paper works were accumulating on his desk. He needed to read through them quickly in order to reduce the workload as soon as possible so that the money will keep on rolling to his side.

"What is it Landon?" Darren snapped looking slightly irritated at his butler while he was still looking at his work. "As you can see,I busy right now. Anything that require my attention now you will see to it. I'm not in the mood of seeing anybody right now. " He stated still not looking at his butler. "Yes Mr. Blackburn." Mr. Hastings said while moving away from the room and closes the door quietly.

Several minutes later, Mr Hastings appear again with a pouch of gold coins and place it Darren's table. Darren's brow furrowed when he saw it. "What is the meaning of this Landon?" He queried not looking happy thinking that his butler is trying to bribe him on something or maybe even leaving him.

"There was a woman who ask me to give it to you, saying the amount you gave her is too much to accept and she left. She was brought into the mansion by you when it was raining that day." The butler said. In a flash, Darren left his work on the table and rush down the stairs. His heart was doing some somersaults when he knew who it was that came to his house just now. He flung open the door without a care to close it back and examine his compound while panting. There was no one outside so he walk further to see if she was anywhere near here. Then he saw her strolling at his garden while appreciating the view. She still look the same donned in her plain light blue dress. He dashed towards her direction while calling her. "Emily..." He said in a soft tone.

When she heard someone calling her name from behind, she turn to find the source of the sound. She was quite surprise to see Darren just an arm's length from her and automatically she move a few steps backward as she wasn't fond of being too close with a man . Especially a man like him. "Good day Mr. Blackburn." She curtsied to him. "I'm sorry for not telling you the exact amount the other day so I hereby return you the money. Not to worry, I didn't take more than I should have. " She said with her head lowered a bit. There was a few moments of silence and Emily felt awkward standing with him alone in this lush surrounding of his garden.

"I know." He finally spoke and cupped her cheek with his right hand. Slowly, caressing it. She jerked a little as she wasn't familiar with this soft side of his. "I know you won't cheat on me on this matter." He repeated when Emily look up at him. His face soften and it seem so surreal like he would do what he was doing to her right now. Stroking her cheek gently as if she was some sort of fragile item that should be taken with care. Feeling queasy here, she move to the back again. "Um, do you need anything else Mr. Blackburn before I head back home?"

"Yes." He breathed and continue. "Call me by my name." He stated while his gray eyes piercing through her black one as if looking deep inside her soul. Not wanting to stand there any longer, she quickly call him by his name. "Darren. Now will you excuse me as I need to go back and work." She said. Even before getting his permission whether she could go or not, she curtsied again and she walked away.

Darren was over the moon when he heard her calling him by his name as he was already trying so hard since the day he was ill in her house. Even though she was reluctant, but she did say it out enough for him to hear. Most people would be glad if he gave them the permission to call him by his name as it shows that they would have a closer relationship with him. He seldom allow that to happen because most of them wanted to get closer to him not because they wanted to but because they have to in order to gain more power, money and fame. A man is full of greed but not Emily. She is quite different from the others. The day he broke into her house and interrogate her, she confessed to him personally that she isn't interested in anything about him and most of the time she would shunned him. This irks him but at least he knew she wasn't a gold digger.
