"Oh, you're finally up." Mary said while smiling at her tenderly. She was cleaning up the dishes when she heard footsteps coming nearer towards her. They had become closer each passing day and they treated each other like sisters instead of friends."How are you feeling?" Mary inquired.

Emily was perplexed by her question. She was fine alright, there's nothing wrong with her. " What do you mean Mary. I'm fine as usual."

"No you're not. You caught a cold after the ball you remember?" She asked trying to make her recall.

"Did I? I just remember I was feeling cold and had a slight headache while I was on the bed. What happen later I don't know." Emily said trying her hardest to remember but the memories seem doesn't want to flow back to her.

"You were sick and we only discover that after Lord Darren came into your chamber late in the night to check on you. He quickly ask the butler to call the doctor when he found out you were cold to the touch." Mary stated.

When Mary told her that, only then she found out the reason why he was with her this morning. She find it relaxing to be with him until she didn't feel weird enough why he was with her on the bed. Couple with the fact that her head was still hazy that she did not care about her being with him in such a scandalous manner. A lady, no a maid, should never be attracted to the master, she reminded herself. They may be close as friends but other than that, neither should not step over their boundaries. He care for her until willing to stay with her on her bed. For that, she appreciate it and believe in every evil person, there is always a little kindness in them.

"I see, I didn't know I was sick. How long did I sleep? It feels as if I've been bedridden for hours. Emily said while scrutinizing the light from outside the kitchen window. It looks like it's afternoon now.

'Yes I'm afraid I must admit that you are unconscious for three days. With the Lord by your side. Always." Mary teased her lightly while patting her shoulder with her wet hand. "I understand that. Not to worry. I won't tell a soul about it."

"Understand what? He did nothing to me Mary if that's what I think you are trying to say." She said with her arms folded, not liking the idea of Mary getting the wrong idea.

Mary chuckled before replying her. " I know, it's just that he seem quite fond of you. And I must say, yesterday when you slowly walk down the stairs, he didn't look anywhere except you. Like he was mesmerized by your beauty."

"Enough Mary." Emily said to her friend with a huff. "I think I'll go and see Ackerley now while you continue your imagination without me." With that said, she sauntered to the garden. It was cold outside but she didn't mind with her black thick cloak covering her. The scent of flowers were everywhere, even in this freezing weather. She felt grateful there were no snow storms destroying the bloom. It was such a pleasant day for her and later, she spotted Ackerley brushing away the snow that was covering the plants.

"Ackerley, how are you?" She asked, looking happy to see her gardener friend. The young man just look at her and crack a smile and stop what he was doing.

"I'm fine thank ya. Ya shouldn't be out here in this frigid climate. I heard ya just got recover from a cold. It's best if ya stay in ya chamber." He stated looking troubled. He fear the master will not be happy seeing her here.

"Why? Are you trying to not happy seeing me here?" She inquired looking upset by the gardener dismissive manner towards her.

"I am but-" He didn't get to finish his sentence when her heard the thundering voice behind her. Darren was coming closer towards them with an dark and unforgiving face. Ackerley gulped and waited for his impending doom.
