I suggest you come prepared for a very long chapter, my fellow Astrophilians

Syzygy: an alignment of celestial bodies

I pulled up to the assisted home. I looked at it for a second. The two hour drive had given be enough time to calm down. My eyes were no longer red and my breathing was back to normal. I slid into a jacket and opened the door. I shivered and moved to the doors. I rushed in and glanced around. It was calm and quiet.

I walked over to the desk. A man greeted me with a bright smile.

"Um, I need to know where Monica Dorlen lives," I murmured.

"Name please?"

"Seraphina Swelski."

"Relation to the patient?"

"Granddaughter."

He smiled again as he pushed a sign-in board towards me. He told me the room name and directed me towards it. I thanked him and took the first left and went up the stairs. I went right and wandered the halls. Elderly people dotted the halls. Talking happily to one another, their wrinkled faces laughing. It smelled like dry cleaner and flowers. I loved the smell of old people.

I stopped in front of Room 165 and knocked lightly on the door, hoping Grammy was in her room. I pushed the slightly open door and peeked in. Grammy was in a wheelchair, while a nurse was bent down in front of her. The nurse was adjusting one of the wheels and Grammy was glaring down at the poor person.

"Grammy?" I asked softly.

Even though my voice was quiet, she heard me. Her head snapped up and she burst into a grin when she saw me. I shuffled nervously as she smacked the nurse's head. This person really had a lot to put up with.

"Seraphina!" She chirped and the nurse stood up, rubbing their head.

When they fully up, I realized it was a guy. His hair was dark purple and his skin golden. He turned around and I was met with a lip ring and two ear-piercings. He didn't look anything like a nurse. His eyes looked me up and down and then met my confused gaze.

I glanced back at Grammy as she wheeled over. She was smiling brightly and her white hair was curly. She reached up and I bent down to hug her. She felt fuller and looked brighter. I smiled, I guess this place was better for her anyways.

"Why'd it take you so long to come visit me?" She pouted, a frown forming on her face as she leaned back in her chair.

"School has me really busy," I murmured quietly.

She snorted, "that's a lie. I know you're a genius. Found yourself a boyfriend?"

I found it hard to lie to my Grammy. The way she scrunched her nose in interest as she looked up at me. How her blue eyes sparkled with interest. I sighed and sat down in the armchair behind me.

"I suppose so," I murmured.

"What is that supposed to mean?" She snapped, smacking me on my head. I blinked and glanced at her, "is it 'complicated'"?

She used quotes and then smirked. This place must've been really good. Old, sassy Grammy was back. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not.

"Uhm-" I bit my lip, "we got into a bad fight tonight."

She leaned forward, "is it over?"

Tears pricked at my eyes, I wiped at them vigorously. Why was I crying over that monster.

"Oh, my baby."

She wrapped her short arms around my head. I breathed in, the smell of Dove soap surrounding me. I smiled and leaned into her. I exhaled, preparing to explain.
