I grumbled when I woke up in the middle of the night. Lately, I had been remembering my dreams and they seemed to be getting worse and worse. I kept trying to go back to sleep, but I was wide awake. I sighed and sat up, I searched my nightstand for my water cup. I grabbed my medicine container, opened it, and popped one pill into my mouth. I took a mouthful of water and laid back down in my plush pillows.

Within ten minutes the medicine took full effect. Exhaustion pulled me down and I fell back asleep.

The wind was warm as it rustled the leaves of the trees. Everything was silent. It was still too. I was glad that there was no one there to ruin the peace. I curled a piece of my hair around my finger. I stared up at the white fluffy clouds.

A bird chirped and flew in front of my vision. I watched it until it disappeared and went back to blankly staring at the sky. The grass tickled my bare legs and arms. I heard something shuffling behind me, but I was too distracted to care. Somebody sat down beside me, warmth radiating from them. I glanced at them through the corner of my eye and recognized the bronzed skin.

The glint of his lip ring finally made me fully turn to him. His hair wasn't gelled down like usual. It was falling repeatedly into his eyes because of the wind. He reached up to it away, but I beat him to it. My two fingers pushed it back to his hair and he glanced down at me, a smile on his plush lips.

"Hello Seraphina," he murmured, his breath blowing across my face. I smiled up at him and reached for his hand.

Our fingers intertwined, and like a spell, the two of us leaned towards each other. I stared into his eyes as his nose brushed mine. I glanced down at his lips, and that's all that it took.

I yelped when he was ripped away from. Everything around me was slowly torn away. I watched as it melted and and got farther and farther away. I was falling.. I lay limp as I tumbled through the air. My hair swept in front of my face and I was cocooned in a air tunnel.

I opened my mouth to scream but no noise came. I could hear the sound of rushing water below. It kept getting louder and louder the longer I fell. I dreaded falling into the cold, swiftly flowing water. As my back hit the frigid water, a voice boomed through the blackness around me.

"Everything and everyone will be ripped away from you!"

I snuggled into my sweatshirt as I walked across the driveway. I studied the familiar house, remembering the hundreds of times I had come here. I remembered the memories that I made here and the great laughs I had. I smiled to myself and rang the doorbell.

Mrs. Rhine opened the door and smiled widely when she recognized me.

"Sera!" She chirped, "come in, please!"

I thanked her and stepped in. The warmth of the house hugged me. I kept my hands tucked in my pockets. She tilted her head, her brown hair tumbling over her shoulders. I gave her a tentative grin.

"Aleah is up in her room."

I nodded again and took off my shoes. I moved through the house with ease and marched up the stairs. I knocked on her door and I heard her groan from her room. I could hear rustling in the room.

"Go away mom! I am busy," she whined and I laughed to myself.
"Busy with what?" I queried, pushing open the door.

Her green eyes widened the minute she saw me. Her mouth dropped and we just stared at each other. I haven't seen her since the mall and it was weird. She hadn't changed at all. Her hair was still the fiery red and her skin was freckled. I blushed, realizing just how much I didn't look like myself. With the new ombre, and the cruel glint in my eyes, I probably looked nothing like the Seraphina she knew.

"Ser!" Aleah cried, jumping off her bed and running over to me. Her arms engulfed me and we hugged for a whole minute. She pulled away and just stared at me for a minute. I grinned, "you look hot!"

I burst into laughter and her's soon joined mine. I never imagined there would be a day that I, Seraphina Swelski, would be called hot. I was pretty, maybe, but I never thought I went beyond that. I was simple with my pale skin, mousy brown hair, and non-vivid blue-gray eyes. I hadn't ever caught any boys' attention before.

Our laughter finally ceased, "but seriously, you are gorgeous. This new hair is amazing and your eyes aren't super bland anymore! They actually have a spark in them."

"Thank you, Al," I murmured and then flopped down on her bed. She fell down beside me and I smirked at her.

"How has school been?" I asked, turning to her.

She rolled her eyes, "people only ask that question when they don't know what to talk about."

"Shut up, I want to know!"

"It's boring, lame, and there's a new mean girl. Clara frickin loves her because she respects Clara and she's evil," she muttered, shaking her head, "plus, all the teachers seem to randomly hate me."

"You have that effect on people, Al," I teased, nudging her with my elbow. She snorted and shoved me away. I chuckled as I fell back.

"How's school? Oh, wait no! I want to know about that boy from the mall," she cooed, leaning forward on her elbows. I groaned, wiping my hand down my face. She snorted at my expense.

"That's Ethan Jonelo, the hottie captain of the lacrosse team," I teased her words from a month ago. She gaped at me in shock.
"Why are all the hot ones assholes? Why were you even hanging out with that thing?" She huffed, grabbing a bag of chips from under her bed. I wrinkled my nose, did she just keep food stashed everywhere?

"I was stuck with him," I muttered, rolling my eyes, "he was my... ah, 'school-greeter' and he decided to stick with me for a while."

At least the first part wasn't a lie.

"School-greeters? What the heck is that school?!" Aleah said, frowning as she shook her head. She shoved a handful of chips into her mouth.

"Definitely for the rich and prestigious," I said with a shrug.

She sighed, "come on! Let's go shopping!"

She suddenly grabbed my arm and dragged her out of her room. I followed behind reluctantly as she pulled me away and outside. The second her eyes landed on my car, her jaw hit the cement.

"I thought you were joking when you told me," she muttered.

"I did too when I was handed the keys."

Aleah jumped in the car and I followed. I drove to the mall down the street and turned into the parking lot. We got out and as we were walking into the building, I caught sight of purple-hair.

I froze for a second, thinking it was Aaron. I shook my head, I was crazy. He was most likely working today.
