Ding Ding Ding

"Okay! We get it," yelled Joslin Murray. I'm not a fan of her yelling really; however, she's great for scaring off the crows in the morning. I met Joslin two years ago at Turners Summer Camp and we have been best friends since. Again, I was jealous of her, not because of how she looked, but because she was extremely talented. She could learn any sport and master it in a matter of days, and above all she could sing. She could sing without strain and with elegant ease. Joslin has curly cocoa-colored hair with hints of blonde streaks, which she claims is natural. Her milky brown eyes are welcoming; however, her not-so benevolent smile is rarely seen as welcoming. Most would assume shes a forever raging tomboy; therefore, getting on her good side was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made.

"Now shut up and let me wake up in peace GOD DAMN-!"

"Hey! Language Joslin." interrupted Sarah Burke, the head counselor of our cabin.

"Right shit sorry,"

"Joslin I'm warning you." said Sarah, " I'm sure you would not like another chat with Nicky now would you?"

"No ma'am," she responded repentantly. Nicky is the head director of the camp and one of the sweetest souls you may ever meet, but get on her bad side and you're in for a ride thats for sure. I'm not necessarily trying to say that Joslin is on her bad side, but she has had a few extra "meetings" than the average camper.

As more campers were waking up more went out to the bathroom to brush their teeth, and the more that went out to brush their teeth the more the screen door would slam shut. The screeching noise from the creaky springs resonated throughout the room creating goosebumps; quickly engulfing my body, god I hated that door. Soon, the cold morning breeze quickly slithers its way through my covers. I try my best to cover my body from head to toe. Typically, I am the last camper out of bed, and not just of my cabin but of the entire camp. I scurry my body to the corner of the bed against the chilly wooden wall and tuck my head inside my pillow sheet. I go through this routine every day up until Sarah yanks the sheets out from under my body. I always think of different ways to keep her from doing so. Just yesterday I covered the wooden planks leading up to my bed in sun tan lotion, and boy was she happy. She caught it before she slipped, shes smart like that; one day I'll get her. Today, I decided to be a bit more creative and tie fishing line from my bed post to my neighbors bunk. I close my eyes and act as if I were road kill on the side of a street hoping she would trip on the fishing line.

"I must admit, your ideas are clever," says Sarah, snipping the line, "and they are improving; however, it only helps me expect things like this to happen more often! Maybe next time you could fill the cabin with quick sand, or even lasers," Sarah said jokingly, "C'mon today is a big day, second session campers are arriving and I need you on your best behavior; is that understood Fiana?" She questioned.

"Yes ma'am," I replied in my heavy-eyed state. In a sloth-like manner I slowly raise my head out from the pillow sheet and force myself to rip the covers off my body. As I twist my legs over the edge of the bed I can still feel the warmth from the covers emitting onto my hand. The sensation trails through my fingers and up past my palms. I forget about everything around me and just focus on the warm covers. I close my eyes and try to remember my dream. Something about a dark forest. It was not a bad dream, just one without much color. I was a squirrel searching for food, and I remember meeting a fox and a bird. Somehow we could all understand each other, but I forget what we were talking about. The rest of the dream is blurry; I open my eyes and look around the cabin, its empty. Sarah started counting off the other girls to head down for breakfast,
"four, five, six... Alright kids where is...".

"Seven... seven!" I say interrupting, "I'm here, sorry about that Sarah I was just ughh.."

"Save it Fiana, we know" she replied, a slight vein poking out from her head, "lets head down to eat shall we!" Acting as if nothing happened.

I always walk with Joslin to formation as well as everywhere else. I mean we do everything together, from doing the same activities, eating next to each other, and sometimes even sleeping in the same bed. We mainly talk about our current crush, like who has the best smile and hair. Every day after breakfast, which was amazing, all campers and staff head over to the acorn pit to discuss the days activities. The acorn pit is the camp's main campfire pit. There are so many campfires in Turners Camp we name them in alphabetical order all the way down to the zebra pit. Anyone who has been here as long as I have knows every pit location by heart. In front of the pit are benches each with their own designated faction labeled on the sides of the legs. Turners Camp separates the boys and girls into two respective groups. This is my first year in the Octopus faction, the older group, with girls that range from ages 14-16. Below us are the guppie girls and on the guys side are the Sharks, who are the older boys, and the Jellyfish sitting below.

As each faction walks to their respective benches a few of the counselors start to sing campfire songs. I have never really enjoyed singing along to songs, but for some reason I find it more fun to watch all the campers sing and dance while making a fool out of themselves. Sitting behind me, Jane Glamor pokes me with a stick in the back of the neck.

"Hey twig," she whispers.

"What do you want," I reply keeping my focus on the singing counselors.

"Shouldn't you be down there," reach over my shoulder pointing to the guppie girls.

Quickly countering her, "Shouldn't you be in juvie." I've been saving that one for a while. I look to see Sarah giving Jane a stern look; Shes always had my back when Jane gives me a hard time. Jane Glamor is the camp bully who has been a camper ever since she was little and next year she will be a counselor. Like Sydney, she is very beautiful; however her personality is quite the opposite and boys only drool over her because of her provocative sense of style. I, on the other hand, puke just thinking about her. Two years ago she was supposed to go to juvie for jumping a girl in her classroom over a bet. Luckily she got out of it because her rich dad has "connections." Jane used to be nice, but ever since the bet she started to act out more and eventually she became a full time bully. As Niki stood up from her bench all the singing suddenly stopped and all eyes were on her.

"On todays agenda, we will be welcoming second session campers, so I would appreciate it if everyone was on their best behavior!" she announced, "is that understood?"

"Yes ma'am," everyone replied in sync.
