Ding Ding Ding
"This has to stop!" Howled Joslin. The cold morning breeze once again slithers its ways through the cracks of the dilapidated cabin. I roll to my side as I evaluate my experience with the new "recruits," as Joslin likes call them. It's been two weeks since the new campers arrived, and with the amount of ice-breaker games I have played I feel like I know a little too much about the new campers. The first few days were as expected; initially they were shy and within a few hours they turned into the wall bouncing campers I anticipated. Today is the first open swim of the summer and with the recent record-breaking weather I feel like it is well deserved. Open swim is one of my favorite activities because everyone is together swimming and having fun. On a typical day at camp, each faction has a set schedule and after a while it can get repetitive. Two years ago Sydney almost drowned in the lake and, although, she has gotten over the incident it seems to have affected me more than anyone else. Walking down to the waterfront Jane once again started rushing to catch up to me.
"Hey twig! Are you ready for a long day of swimming? Oh wait - you're not because you are too afraid of something that didn't even happen to you." She laughs with a slight snort.
"Hey, why don't you just back off and grow up Jane," intervenes Sydney, giving her a stern glance. Sydney isn't typically one who stands up for people so it surprised me just as much as it did Jane. Sydney used to be best friends with Jane but after she realized what kinda person she was she stopped hanging around her as much.
"Whatever," replied Jane, whipping her hair in my face.
"Ugh thanks Sydney, I appreciate it."
"Of course," replies Sydney as she passes me walking towards the waterfront. Joslin is feeling ill today and shes been in the nurses office all day, so I guess ill be asking one of the recruits to splash water on me since Joslin isn't here to keep me cool. I suddenly jump as an unexpected tap touches my shoulder.
"Woah! A warning next time please" I say as I turn to see a strange boy.
"Hey! Don't worry about her," he replies.
"Do I know you?" I question, "I am certain that I've met all the second session campers."
"I just arrived today," replying with a slightly odd, yet attractive smile. We walk together down to the beach as he introduces himself as Brent Bryans. He tells me about his ride here and how he loved watching the country land pass, and as we reach the beach our conversation is abruptly interrupted by a huge wave of water splashed into our face.
"Hows the water?" Questioned Jane. Not wanting to start anything I quietly turn my back and rub the water from my eyes.
"I'm sorry about Jane shes always like this."
"Don't worry about it," replies Brent with a chuckle.
"So for the few moments you have been here...Brent?" With my vision clear again it was obvious that Brent was no where to be found.
