Chapter three: Hal's suggestion

Walking down those halls after what just happened was dreadful. I just wanted to die. I've always had this thought that Archie liked me. I mean, the way he talked to me, the way he acted as if we were dating, but it just hurt.

As I walked, I felt a pair of arms reach me from behind. "Betts, please stop. Let's go. Principal Weatherbee wanted to see us. All of us." he said and I obliged.

I walked towards his office, tears streaming down my face.

"Ms. Cooper, do you have anything to say about the incident?" Weatherbee asked me. I nodded and proceeded to tell him what I thought.

"Principal, this really isn't a problem the faculty should be dealing with. This is between us students, and detention would be the valid punishment for our actions." I say in the most formal and proper way I can.

Principal Weatherbee nods and tells us that we had detention on saturday. After that, hs dismisses us.

(Third person

"Mom, for the last time, I'm sorry!"
"Elizabeth Cooper, you had no right to lash out like that. It will ruin our reputation!"
"Mom, Archie, it was his fault!"
"Do not blame the innocent for what you did,"
"Mom, archie is a fuckboy don't you get it?"
"Language Elizabeth. I'm warning you,"

Their banter went on until Hal Cooper had enough. This was a rare occasion, although he was used to it. "Enough! Elizabeth, go to your room! Alice, quit it!" he said out of pure anger. Betty was startled and taken aback by the sudden force her father had in his voice, but she knew better than to disobey. Putting her arms down, she walked up the stairs.

"Hal, I was teaching your daughter a lesson," She said trying to reason with him. This was the only time she had ever reasoned, because Alice Cooper didn't need to beg. It would be them to beg.

Although this was the only man that over powered her. He made her do terrible things, and as much as she wanted to leave, her "perfect" reputation would be ruined.

"You're doing it wrong. If you were to ever scold your daughter, put force and take things physically so the message can sink in," he said. Alice gasped. Was he suggesting they hurt their perfect little girl? Alice wouldn't go for it. "Hal, are you suggesting physical abuse?!" she said, and he faced her with a straight face. "Yes. They need to be taught." he said strictly.
