Chapter four: The box
THE SOFT KNOCKING ON THE WINDOW STARTLED SLEEPING BETTY COOPER FROM HER SLUMBER. Her eyes fluttered open, and the sight of a raven-haired boy staring at her from her window came to view.
She began to get up. It was six o' clock, technically Five fifty three. Once her small hot pink alarm clock ringed five times, her mother would be up in her pajamas, preparing perfect strawberry pancakes like the perfect american housewife.
"Jughead? What are you doing here so early?" She asked, yawning. Rubbing her eyes, she went and opened the window to let him in. He climbed in. Archie saw them and gave Jughead a glare.
He must have noticed, because he shot Archie back with another. Betty giggled and Archie closed his blinds. What was his problem anyway? She thought. Abandoning her thoughts, she noticed Jughead sitting down and staring at a box. A big, light pink box, with a peice of paper in the front, which wrote: Imperfections, which was stored upon her highest shelf.
"What are those?" he asked curiously, pointing to the box. He was curious, he was Jughead. Betty shook her head vigoriously. "Things that are less than perfection," she replied shyly. Her mother had taught her nothing but perfection, and one toe out of it would mean the wrath of both of her parents.
"I like it. It sort of relays a message somehow," he said. Betty suddenly felt a little bit better for her imperfections. Smiling sweetly, she let out a sigh. "So, have you eaten yet? I could bring you a banana or--" "Don't worry, Pop's gave me a free burger." He said, a faint smile crossing over his features. Betty smiled back, unsure of how to respond.
And in the blink of an eye, her study table in which the clock was placed conveniently on vibrated. Within two seconds, the clock began to ring its' repeated tune. Repeated cycle until someone interfered with it.
It symbolized her life for the past sixteen years, chasing the boy who never liked her back. Repeating that cycle until someone interfered. And that someone was Veronica Lodge.
In the middle of her thinking, she didn't feel nor notice Jughead shaking her arm, saying her name repeatedly, although not loud enough to let Mrs. Cooper, who had supposedly gotten up by now, as he had heard footsteps downstairs. Just then, reality snapped back in the form of a cough.
"Betts, your mom is probably downstairs, I should probably get going," He said. Betty nodded and opened up the window. What was first noticed was the view. Instead of a long ladder propped up to the side of the house, It was just pure straightness.
And then they saw him. Archie Andrews holding the ladder. Smirk plastered on his boyish face. Betty instantly picked up her phone and started texting him:
B- What's ur problem Archie?!
A- Nothing
A- Just being protective of my future-wife seeing other men
B- Archie we are not together! Most importantly I don't love you anymore!
A- Stop lying Betty. You know you like me😚
While they were texting, Jughead repeatedly looked over Betty's shoulder to see what he was texting. Once it was over, he wanted to pound him. How does he have the guts to speak like that?! He thought.
Just then, while Betty was tapping her fingers lightly on her phone to write a good comeback, they heard the sound of footsteps nearing the door. "Quick! Hide!" She hispered to Jughead, who had managed to slip into her closet after.
She then slid her phone underneath her comforter and picked up the pink sweater layed out on her chair, pretending to debate whether or not to wear it. Her door opened with a small creak, revealing Alice Cooper in all her glory. "Betty dear, head downstairs, food's ready," she said sweetly, "Be right there mom," Betty replied. Alice then closed the door and began to walk downstairs.
Once she was out of earshot, Jughead breathed a sigh of relief. "That was, very, suffocating. You have too many pink clothes," he joked. Betty laughed and smiled. "How are you going to get out now?" she asked worriedly.
"Eh, maybe I'll just jump off and risk getting a broken leg, or get seen by your mother. Whichever comes first." he joked again, and Betty felt an idea spark inside her head. "Wait here," she said and ran downstairs.

Alice found it unusual to see her daughter so energetic when she came running down the stairs. "Hey mom, can I have the keys to the attic?" she said eagerly, but not too eagerly, not to make it too obvious. Her mother stared at her suspiciously.
Alice knew her daughter was doing something up there, so even if the keys were in the pockets of her pants, she refused to give them. "Oh honey, I'm sorry, I don't have them," she said lying pretty well.
"Okay mom," she said then motioned to go to the kitchen Island, where she poured herself a bottle of milk and took her strawberry pancakes. "Mom, I think I'm going to eat upstairs," Betty reasoned. Her mother nodded and she began to go upstairs.

"Hey, sorry I took forever, I was trying to get mom to give me the keys to the attic." she said to Jughead. He nodded and had an idea, "Why don't you use a Bobby Pin?" he asked. Betry's face beamed with delight. She placed the plates on her table and dragged her chair to a corner.
"While I'm doing this, you can eat some of it. I'm not that hungry anyway," she said to him. Betty climbed on and plucked one from her hair that had not been removed last night.
A few twists and turns later, the door opened with a pop, and a small ladder emerged which gave them the choice to go upstairs. Betty climbed up and switched on the lights. She then saw a ladder. She took it, switched of the lights, and in one fell swoop, closed it and locked it shut.
"Here, take this," she said, giving Jughead the Ladder. He then took it and carefully put it to the side of the house where Betty's window was located. He began climbing downstairs, but before he went down, he said to Betty, "Can you give me something in the box? Just to remind me of this, you know, moment,"

Sooooooooooooo..... YEAH! this was chapter four, and I really am proud of this.
As you can see, I've gone third person and completely want to change the format of this story once I'm through. This thing is so long for me to write. I know it may be super short for you "proffesional" writers, and I maybe am rushing things here, but I get it, okay?! I suck. Thank you for reading anyways.
