Ashley's P.O.V
//Francisco the Ferret pt.3//
I quickly jump up from my sleeping state when I hear a high pitched sound echoing throughout the apartment complex. I see Bea opening her eyes slowly."What, what who was that?" She questions yawning.
"I-I think it was Joslyn, Where is she?" I ask recalling her going to the bathroom but, never returning last night.
"Jai!" I whisper-yell kicking his side softly. He was nestled on the beige carpet beneath Bea and I.
He doesn't wake up from my kick so as a result Bea gets up from the couch sluggishly and rolls him over.
"Jai wake up, we heard Joslyn scream." She explains.
He gets up right then with a small grin.
Oh ok.
"Good morning we're having here." Jai smiles seeming as if he was on top of the world.
I roll my eyes getting up off the couch to go find Joslyn. What could she possibly be yelling about?
"Come on," I say motioning my hand to Jai and Bea, who were still smiling at each other.
We make our way up the stairs, and Halfway down the hallway both Chase and Sabrina come out of Chase's room
"The fuck? Is that Joslyn?" Chase asks rubbing his eyes which were barely open.
"I think so," I answer with a mumble.
Another scream sounds through the flat once again.
"Get it off of me! It's fucking moving!" Joslyn yelled once everyone made it down the hall to the second-floor bathroom.
"Francisco!" Jai exclaims happily. He swiftly lifts the animal off of Joslyn's chest. Joslyn quickly hops out of the tub.
"How did you end up in the tub?" Both Bea and I ask simultaneously in confusion.
"I don't know I came to the bathroom and I guess...I fell asleep." she attempts to explain.
"In my tub?" Chase asks raising his eyebrow
"I'm not going to stand here while you question me about questionable things I did in questionable times, I'm going home." She shrugs walking out.
"I should probably go too, my dad might be worried since I didn't say I was staying over," I say following Joslyn.
"Can I come to your house for breakfast, we only have cereal at mine," Jai asks me with a big smile.
"I would but, today is you know...the day," I say sadly.
"What d- oh," he says awkwardly.
I nod and I head back to the living room to get my phone and sweater.
Considering I lived next door it was just a few steps to my room.
Today was the day of the year that seemed so close yet far. It reminded me of memories I wish I couldn't remember. I missed my mom although I barely got enough time with her. The memory of that night always flashed through my mind randomly from time to time.
I decide to take a quick shower before going to the graveyard.

I follow Joslyn behind Ashley.
"Bye ash," I wave at her when his crosses over to her apartment, She says a small bye before entering her home.
"Joslyn slow down! You know my legs are small" I say speeding up.
"Walk faster." She laughs.
"Walk faster." I mock finally catching up
to her.
"Need a ride home?" She asks pulling her keys out her purse. It was the one I got her for her last birthday. I nod in response waiting until she opened her car door for me to get in.
"So, what's going with you and Jai?" She asks while unlocking her car's door.
"What do you mean?" I ask confused getting into the passenger seat. My heart started to beat a little faster at the sudden question.
"The way you look at him and the way he looks at you isn't a friendship level look. It's code for 'oh Jai I want to have your baby'."
"Please, that's anything." I shrug although I was panicking on the inside. I didn't like him, I knew that but I still felt a little something.
"What's going on between you and Chase?" I ask defensively.
"Chase and I, C-chase? Nothing." She says shrugging and starting the car up.
"See! Something's going on." I say not really expecting her reaction. Wow. Joslyn likes Chase. I didn't see that coming.
"So, do you like him?' I ask wiggling my eyebrows anxiously, wanting to hear her say it herself.
"No, he has a girlfriend and that would be weird, Bea." She sighs
"I guess." I sigh not really knowing to say.

I jump into my car after grabbing a banana from the fruit bowl in the kitchen. I drove the necessary three miles to reach Greenwood cemetery. When I get there I feel a drastic change in my mood. The branches from towering trees fly in the cold wind. I stuff my arms inside my sweater and I head to my mom's tombstone.
The route which was engraved into my mind from the decade of coming here. The sweet peas that I left there last year were brittle and faded from their bright purple and red color. I didn't bring any flowers this year. I was tired of seeing dead flowers every time I visited her. They reminded me that time passes so fast and I barely had enough time with her.
-
"Want to go higher?" My mom laughs pushing me on the park's swing. My feet were dangling and I was filled with laughter. These were times that I clearly remembered. "Higher." I breathed in between my consistent laughter. I felt like I could fly and in the moment I could. I could do anything.
-
I've lost that mentality along with my mom.
I sit next to the grave that has been here for almost ten years now. The harsh wind blew my hair into my pale face. I pulled a scrunchy out my sweater pocket and tied my hair into a loose ponytail.
I didn't say anything out loud, what was there to say? She was gone.
Nothing but, "I miss you," could be appropriate but I've said that over and over again.
If I'm being really honest, I can't say I miss her. I barely knew her. Memories were fabricated to make everything better. If anyone my dad should be her. He knew her for almost fifteen years. I knew for eight. What was the point of me even coming here?
What was the point?
Really, what's the point?
