All day we played games, from things we actually were familiar with (such as ski ball) to things I didn't understand at all (such as walking over tightropes a foot or two above the ground with pineapples on our heads).
Taking Rogue's hand, I drew my other one across my forehead, taking away a streak of sweat. It felt like I was walking around on the sun, but I'd only have to tolerate the heat for a bit more. It was around 8, the sun was setting, and the night festivities were about to begin. I saw adults toss their children ever so gracefully into the grudging responsibility of preteen babysitters before running off to a night of freedom.
"Everyone is going down to the beach now," Aruna said nonchalantly, as if a village-wide beach party was normal. "You'll notice a lot of tourists here as well as locals. Just be careful, and if somebody asks you to "sacrifice the booty", for Gods' sake say no." Netis frowned, clasping her butt for a moment in alarm before walking slightly closer to Blake.
"How long is this gonna last?" I asked, looking around in amazement.
"Til the last person passes out cold in the sand," Aruna summed up.
The moon glimmered off the light blue water, turning it silver, and huge bonfires were springing up around us. The locals used wood that was somehow white, and sparked up in blue flames. The sand was glowing white in the moonlight, and a huge cliff perched majestically at the end of the beach.
"My friends and I did this all the time back home," Rogue mused, smiling slightly. "The salt bleaches the wood, and makes the fire turn blue."
"We need to try that when we get back home," I decided.
"When did you guys start living together?" Chase asked, glancing at Aruna as if he were imagining her dancing around the house in a polkadot dress I Love Lucy style. I glanced at Rogue, flushing a deep scarlet. How do you tell someone that you've lived with a guy since the day you met?
"We meet at a photoshoot, I slept over that night, and lived together from there."
I guess like that.
Netis, Chase, Blake, and Aruna's jaws dropped simultaneously, and I wanted to fall into the bellybutton of Satan and out of sight.
"I...Er... I've been having some issues with this guy and he won't-."
"Fuck off."
"-leave me alone," I finished, giving Rogue the evil eye. "Rogue was playing bodyguard at first, but then we just fell into living with each other without any problems." I shrugged helplessly, still bright red. In retrospect, that was pretty insane.
"That is so CUTE!" Netis and Aruna shrieked at once.
"That I technically let a stranger move into my home?" I muttered, crossing my arms over myself.
"Well, no. But people who know each other super well have trouble living with each other, and you guys did it easily," Aruna explained.
"Because they're in loooooooove," Blake sang, pirouetting around in the sand.
"Little bit," Rogue murmured lowly, leaning in to run the tip of his nose up my jaw before nipping my ear. Blake and Chase let out wild wolf whistles and cat calls as Netis and Aruna hid giggles, sliding off clothes with bathing suits underneath. Blake subtly nudged Chase, and I shook my head as his eyes grew huge and glassy landing on Aruna. If this was a werewolf book or something he'd have just found his mate.
Walking backwards with Rogue's hands in mine, I breathed a happy sigh. This place was beautiful.
"I'm sorry about my dad. Mom. Family," I laughed nervously, pausing as a small boy and girl, who looked around 9, came to put flower chains around our heads, necks, and wrists.
"Its okay. Perfect, actually. Your family sounds interesting," he snickered. I groaned, exhausted just thinking about it."Plus, Egypt is lovely this time of year."
Before I could register that he's already been to Egypt, the boy said something to the girl in a language I couldn't catch, and she smacked him, looking upset. He chucked under her chin as if he were 10 times her age, then took her hand and kissed it. She flushed, growling something as she glanced at us.
Rogue suddenly said something in their language, and she gasped before running off to an older woman near one of the fires. The boy was howling with laughter, and high fived Rogue before running off after her, singsonging something.
"What did you say?" I asked accusingly, stripping off my dress. It was a turquoise one piece, with the side cut out in a horizontal oval.
"That he's going to marry her someday," he said absently, looking me up and down. I took my hair out of it's ponytail, using my other hand to take his.
"I should punch you for scarring that girl, but I'd rather dance," I chuckled, wrapping my arms around his shoulders and swaying my hips. "Is this our thing now? Beaches and bonfires?" I asked as Arjuna gyrated past us, Chase panting after.
"Not sure, but I could get used to swimsuits," he murmured huskily, pulling me closer by the hips.
"Oh, so it's that kind of mood," I chuckled back teasingly, pressing my hand against the back of his neck and pulling his face to mine.
His lips pressed to mine, and my back automatically arched to curve towards his as I melted against him. His hands squeezed tighter to my back, and I bit his lip, earning a groan just as someone cleared their throat.
Nearly weeping, I pulled away to see Rogue narrowing his eyes at Blake.
"Yeah, yeah, you're horny. But you've gotta see this," Blake said excitedly, grinning.
He pointed to the top of the cliff, where people gathered with torches, and I had looked just in time to see a few of them leap off
