Chapter 33: We Watch Their Weapons Fall

"And when I found out that you guys we're headlining this year's Kerrang! Tour and coming to my town I freaked the hell out!"

Lauren had been explaining how big a fan she is of our band and even how she came across us. This was truly exciting for Ricky and I, she was the first person to ever get this excited about our band.

"Honestly so did we. We had no idea and this is such a huge honor, you could have opportunities just like this too Libby if the talent show audition goes well."

"Yeah..that all sounds awesome but I don't think I could possibly sing in front of all those people. Manchester is a pretty big place.."

"I get nervous too, in fact I once passed out before going on stage and hit my head, but now I use that adrenaline to my advantage and use it to put on an amazing show."

"That's what everyone says.."

"Because it works. I doubt so many people would say it if it didn't."

"I think Jade wins this one Libby."

She shot daggers at Lauren, but she knew she was right.

When we entered a clearing in the woods we decided to tie up the horses and take a break. Ricky and I had brought along a bottle of water each and an apple for me and a power bar for him. Libby and Lauren had brought some water and snacks for them and the horses.

They filled up a small trough that they had previously placed there and filled it with water from a 5 litre bottle for the horses then sat down on a collapsed tree with me and Ricky.

After about ten minutes, the horses began attempting to break free as if something had spooked them. Lauren explained that the small animals which lived in the trees sometimes spooked them as they run up and down.

However they didn't seem to calm down after a few more minutes so we decided it was time to pack up and leave.

After we left the clearing the horses seemed more relaxed, apart from Lauren's horse snowflake.

"Looks like somethings really spooked her."

I looked at Lauren, concerned.

"Yeah, she'll be fine though."

"Maybe you should walk with her, riding a spooked horse is extremely dangerous, you know that."

"Libby, I'm fine I've seen worse than th-"

A large skunk ran out in front of the path and in front of Lauren, spooking Snowflake further causing her to startle the skunk and spray.

This was the absolute line for Snowflake as she raised her front legs and threw Lauren off of her back then accidentally trampled her by repeatedly stamping on her rib cage until Libby was able to pull her away.

"Holy shit! Someone call an ambulance!"

Ricky whipped out his phone and dialled while I froze in shock. I was so use to this kind of thing happening around me but it still hit me deep inside each time...

(at the hospital)

Me, Ricky and Libby all sat in the waiting room anxiously waiting for the results. She was rushed straight into surgery as Snowflake managed to break her ribs and damage her vital organs.

Libby hadn't said a word since we arrived. She was clearly distraught over the event, a feeling I knew all too well.

"I know how you feel Libby.."

"Why, was your best friend who was like a sister to you trampled by her own horse?"

"No..my dad was murdered by my mum.. I had to just sit there helplessly and watch it happen.."

"Wow..I'm so sorry. What happened?"

"She's an alcoholic who loved to beat her kids and one day my dad decided to grow a pear and stand up to her. She was about to hit me over the head with a bottle and instead my dad took the hit for me..it's easy to say that I feel responsible for it, I knew not to speak to her yet I didn't shut up about wanting a replacement for the acoustic guitar she smashed."

"Jade..you've never told that to anybody, not even me.."

Ricky pulled me into a comforting hug.

"Yeah well in times like this nothing is more comforting than someone who understands your pain. I speak from experience."

The doctor came to speak to us before anyone could say anything else about it.

"I'm so sorry to inform you that Lauren's injuries were too serious and our staff was unable to stop the bleeding in her organs. She didn't survive the procedure."

Libby's face turned white and attempted to speak but couldn't quite get the words out.

"W-we need to call her parents..."

She finally managed to say and took out her phone to tell them the tragic news...
