Gal's POV

A couple of hours has passed, y/n and the other runners haven't returned yet. I'm starting to get worried, it's getting dark and others are already preparing for dinner while y/un told me to rest after he taught me how to handle weapons and fight properly.

Exhausted, I laid back down on the bed thinking about her. I told her I'll give her a reward when she comes back. Am I really gonna do this? Am I really gonna tell her how I feel about her? What if she doesn't like me back? What if she distance herself from me? What if—

My thoughts got cut off when I heard people shouting outside. I quickly took the gun that y/un gave me and ran out. I saw the runners carrying Shawn, shouting for help. People gather around them trying to stop the bleeding from Shawn's leg.

I looked around but there's no sign of y/n, I got scared but I know she's strong. I was about to ask Tom as to where y/n could be when the guards opened the huge gates of the community letting a pick up truck in.

After they closed the gates, the person from the car turned the engine off and hopped out.

There she was, my y/n safe and sound. I immediately ran to her and hugged her tight. I caught her off guard but she hugged back the second she realized it was me.

"Thank God your alright." I told her cupping her cheeks.

Y/n smiled at me and placed her hand above mine. "I told you, I'll be safe right?" I smiled at her and hugged her again.

"What happened to Shawn? Is he gonna be okay?" I looked back at where they're taking care of him. They managed to stop the bleeding and now the runners are preparing to take him to the infirmary.

"A group or raiders tried to take our things, one of them shot Shawn on the leg but we managed to kill them all. I took their truck and then I saw someone hiding inside" Y/n gestured inside the truck, I looked inside and there was a boy, around the age of ten sleeping peacefully.

"His name is Peter. He's not a part of their group. No one knew about him. He steals food from the group so he can survive. He begged me not to leave him so I let him stay. I could never abandon a child anyways." I looked back at y/n who's still looking at the child. I smiled at her.

She never fails to amaze me. She has such a good heart despite of what's happening around us.

"I think we should wake him up so he can clean up and get himself situated" y/n nodded in approval and opened the door near Peter. I stood beside her, watching how she carefully wakes the boy up. I smiled to myself knowing that y/n will be a great mother someday, when that time comes, I hope we already have the cure for these freaks.

Y/n's POV

After helping Peter get situated, I've decided to back to Gal and I's bedroom. I saw her sitting on the bed comfortably while reading a novel from the bookshelf. I've decided to sit next to her and join her.

"What're you reading?" Gal smiled and put the book down and faced me.

"Nothing, just some random fiction book from your bookshelf." I stared at her and smiled. I can spend the whole day by just looking at her beautiful face and I wouldn't mind.

"Y/n, remember what I told you earlier? Back before you and the other runners went for a run? Back when I told you that I have a surprise for you if you come home safe?"

I looked at her curiously once again and sat up straight.

"Yeah, what about it? I want to know the surprise now." I smiled at her.
