A Turn For The Worst

Me and Ellie were sitting on the couch now close to the window when joel started to wake up. "You mumble in your sleep....I hate bad dreams." Ellie said still looking out the window. I didn't look back but I heard a quiet 'me too' from the guy behind us. "I've never been this close....to the outside I mean. It can't be any worse than in here right?" I shrugged at the question and just looked out the walls as far as I could. Moments later while me and Ellie were still gazing outside the window the girl 'tess' walked back in and started to talking to joel. I looked at Ellie when Joel said it was time to go. "Come on." I nudged her and took her hand when we walked outside to make her hurry up. "Hey what's up? Your a little quiet." I poked her arm as she turned to face me "ahh just a little nervous. You know? I've never really been to the outside." She stared off outside of the walls looking as if she could see over. A smile ran across my cheeks and i put my hand on the back of my neck. "Well i guess you can say that.. I've never really been out there myself but don't worry we have each other's back no matter what happens. Before she could make a remark Joel hushed everyone and told us to get down. Guards were swarming everywhere I guess to prevent any fireflies from escaping. We keep on slowly sneeking past the guards one by one. We climb in a bus and started heading to the other side. "Shit!!" I cussed as I was being thrown on the ground along with anyone else.  "Don't move or we will open fire!" The guard started pointing a gun at us while the other guy just pulled out a scanner .... he started scanning joel, then tess, then me, and finally Ellie. She suddenly whipped out a pocket knife and stabbed the dude in the leg and the neck. The other guard turned to shoot at Ellie but he wasn't fast enough. I pulled out my gun and shot him in the head which seemed to alert nearby enemies but it would take a minute for them to get here. "Shit...fuck. fuck..fuck! I thought we were just gonna hold them up." She sat down in the dirt where I sat also to join her. "Joel! Look at this..." I look up to see tess hand him the scanner. 'Oh shit.' I looked over to Ellie and back in their direction. "We were set up.. Why the hell are we smuggling an infected girl!" Ellie looked up quickly when she heard what they said. "No.. wait I'm not infected!!" Joel grabbed the the scanner from tess then showed her. "So this is lieing then?!" Ellie started rolling up her sleeve and showed her bite that looked weird. "This is 3 weeks old I swear.! Why would Marlene set you up?" We look around confused.. thinking about what they said.. "Oh shit... tess!! Run..." Joel looked at tess then started running. Tess told us to move which we did.. we jumped in a ditch and crouched down behind the walls...
