History of Atoms: Atoms were founded by Democritus (460-370 BC) Democritus was a philosopher in Ancient Greece and he thought a lot about matter. He thought that all matter was made up of tiny particles that cannot be divided and he called these particles atoms from the Greek word atomos (meaning indivisible.) He believed that different atoms are different sizes and have different properties.
Atoms have subatomic particles which are: protons, electrons and neutrons.
Protons and Neutrons are found in the nucleus.
Electrons are found in the electron shells that surround the Nucleus.
