The mermaid slows, crouching as she approaches the beach. For once, Pan seemed to be telling the truth. Sure enough, there was a huge ship docked near Mermaid Lagoon. Sirena gapes at it in shock. It had been eons since she had seen a ship! She turns to her favorite tree, deciding it was far enough away to observe the ship from its branches. Sirena crawled toward the tree, sparing a glance at the ship before she climbs. She could just about see people on the deck, so she pulls out her spyglass to get a closer look. That's when she saw him: the captain.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Several years had passed since the pirate ship had anchored in Neverland. Every day, Sirena climbed into her tree and watched the men walk around the deck for hours. To be specific, she watched the captain, documenting his habits. A few months after the ship came, she had discovered that the captain had an extensive library. She hoped that she could find a book that would have a solution for her to fix her failure, allowing her to return home. Today, she was finally going to start searching through the books!

Every day before dinnertime, the captain would check the ship as the others ate before he would join them. He would stay and drink for a few hours, then stagger his way back to his cabin. Usually, he would stumble around in his drunken stupor, so she would search until then. A few hours was not very long, but she planned on investigating several times. To ensure she wouldn't get caught, she planned on leaving time between each stint.

She nibbles on a piece of bread as she sits in the tree, looking through her spyglass. Then she saw the man she was waiting for: the captain was finally leaving his quarters. She tucks the bread in her bag as she continues to watch. Sure enough, he starts examining the ship. Sirena throws her bag over her shoulder and scampers down the tree. She sprints down the sand as soon as her feet touch down, diving into the sea when she got closer.

Sirena feels the change occur as she continues to swim. Oh, how she had missed the rush it brought. She pauses for a second to admire her tail and top that appeared. Her teal halter top drapes over her hips. A sheer train flows around her back and sides, the edge ending slightly under each breast. Her stomach is only covered by the thicker fabric. Her tail was a similar color, but each scale had an ombre pattern of different shades of turquoise. From above, she blended into the waters of the bay, invisible to the untrained eye.

She propels herself through the water using her powerful tail. She relishes in the forgotten experience of the bubbles kissing her face as she flew through the sea. She slows as she approaches the ship, spotting the porthole belonging to the captain's cabin. She brings her hands to her sides as she treads the water with her tail. She takes a deep breath, hoping she still had it in her. Sirena raises her arms, closes her eyes, and mentally commands the water around her to lift her to the window. She opens one eye and realizes she had stopped right below her way in. Smiling, she pushes herself further upwards to peek in the window, making sure the captain is gone.

The mermaid pulls herself into the opening, leaving her tail hanging outside. She turns toward her tail and slowly clenches a fist, steam rising around her. Within a few moments, her tail disappears and she is in her clothes again, her satchel reappearing. She deposits the small bag at the foot at the bed while the girl examines the bookshelf.

"There must be something here to set things right!" she mumbles to herself, afraid to hope as she looks around.
