It's the next morning and my dad is making his coffee as I walk into the kitchen.
"Good morning. How did you sleep?" He grinned and poured me a cup of coffee. He handed me it.
"Um, can I ask you something?" I took a sip of the coffee.
"Sure, what?"
"Do you know the backstory of this necklace?" I wondered.
"Skye, I can't do this now."
"Then when? Anytime I want to know a family secret you either don't share it or dodge it."
"I'll let you know things when you are old enough to know."
"And when would that be? I've been asking since I was twelve and Sam has been doing the same thing. Each time you would dodge it, not share it, or say that. I'm seventeen. I can handle at least one secret and apparently I feel like we have several."
"Skye, not yet. Next year." He told me.
"No I'm not waiting any longer." I put the coffee down.
"Well I'm not going to tell you."
"Then I'll deal with it myself." I told him then went back upstairs.
"Skye!" My dad shouted from downstairs but it wasn't an angry shout.
"What's going on?" Sam walked out of his room.
"I'm tired of waiting. I'm gonna find out some of our family secrets because dad isn't going to say anything."
"He is still dodging or saying until we are older isn't he?"
"Yeah." I nodded, "Why? Do you want to find out too?"
"Of course."
"Good, so we are in this together?" I asked.
"Yeah. To start, I saw dad put some old notebooks that our ancestors wrote. Maybe that's something to start with?"
"Where are they?" I wondered.
"The closet under the stairs. There are a couple. Let's grab one each for now."
"Sounds good to me. Once dad leaves I'll grab them."
"No I will. No offence but you aren't the tallest person."
"I'm five foot five."
"Yeah, I'm five-eleven. I'll grab them." He chuckled.
"Alright."
(30 Minutes Later)
"Sammy come on!" I shouted as I stood at the door.
"Alright, alright." Sam rushed downstairs and went outside. I closed and locked the door. I unlocked the car and he got in. I went and got into the driver's side and shut the door.
"Wait, did you grab-"
"Right here." Sam handed me one notebook.
"How many were there?" I wondered.
"Four. So this is one and two."
"Ok, but is this actually something your gonna read because you don't exactly read books."
"Neither do you but we both want to know family secrets."
"Alright, but just promise me you will still focus in class." I started the car.
"Of course." He grinned. I smiled then drove to school.
