Sam said he's still gonna do basketball. Tryouts start today. He knows it's my birthday and he is coming straight home after tryouts. I'm home and working on homework. It's just passed four and Stefan wanted me to meet with him but I'm not. I don't care much for what he has to say. For either of them. Just because they grew up doesn't mean they matured much.

"Hey sweetie, how was your day?" My dad peaked his head into my room.

"Alright, just a regular day. Nothing spectacular."

"Well there must have been something considering it is your birthday." He stepped in.

"Not really. Emily and Kate did decorate my locker a bit but that's it. I'm also just not that much in the mood to enjoy my birthday this year."

"Skye, we will never forget about mom but you do have to enjoy your day. You know mom is still here and if you don't think so then maybe this might help." My dad pulled out a small box from his back pocket.

"What is it?" I wondered.

"Your mom wanted to wait until you were eighteen but I thought to just give it to you now." He smiled and gave me the box. I opened it and it was a necklace.

"Mom's necklace?" It's her necklace that she always wore; no matter the event. It's pure gold she says and it has been passed down our family for centuries she claims.

"Every woman has been given this necklace when they turn eighteen or until their older passes. That's what your mom and your grandma has said. But considering- it's yours now." He grinned. I smiled and got up.

"Thanks dad." I gave him a hug.

"You're welcome. Do you want me to put it on?" He asked.

"Yeah." I smiled and I gave him the necklace. I turned around and he put the necklace on me.

"Ok." He said and I turned back around.

"Thanks dad."

"You're welcome but where's your brother?" He wondered.

"He wants to continue basketball. I think it's good. He didn't do it last year and he got depressed. I think if he does basketball he'll stay at least a bit content."

"Then you should've continued soccer." He grinned.

"I know but the difference between Sammy and I is that he's practically naturally smart. When I did soccer I focused a lot on that and I didn't have the best grades if you didn't recall. Then also after mom died my grades were still the same because I couldn't focus. This year I just want to raise my grades. I do want to go to a good college. Junior year is the year colleges start looking at." I smiled.

"Alright but please tell me you won't hide in your room like you did-"

"I won't. Also is it ok if Emily and Kate come over?"

"As long as they aren't drinking then that's fine."

"It happened once." I grinned.

"I know and at least you were home." He smiled, "I'll let you get back to your homework. Also I'll let you know when they get here."

"Thanks dad." I smiled. He smiled then walked out and closed the door behind him. I looked down at the necklace and grinned. I went back and continued my homework.

I don't know what time it is but I'm assuming it is at least half passed five considering Sam just got home. I can hear him rushing upstairs.

"Hey sis!" He's upbeat as he knocked on my door.
