Sam and I are with the insurance company. Rick is sitting outside. They wouldn't let him in. I don't know much about all this. I wish Rick was in here for this. I'm hoping Sam knows more about this than me. Sam leaned over.
"I'm gonna guess around a hundred and fifty thousand; maybe." Sam looked at me. I don't even have a guess.
"Skye, Sam, we've come to a conclusion. From your cars, house, and property in and out of the house; we've come to the decision of four hundred and eighty three thousand, five hundred and twenty six dollars, and forty five cents." Dale told us with one of the insurance guys next to him. Holy shit. Sam looked at me. Um, we really don't know how to respond to this, "Would you like Alaric to come in?" He saw that we were unsure about everything.
"Please." Sam told him. Dale opened the door then waved Rick in. Ricked walked in and looked at us.
"Chris, this is Alaric Saltzman. Their legal guardian." Dale introduced Rick to the insurance guy.
"Hello." Rick shook his hand.
"Alaric this is the expenses from the house and cars. Then an approximate amount from inside and outside the house. We are offering four hundred and eighty three thousand, five hundred and twenty six dollars, and forty five cents." Chris, the insurance guy, told Rick and gave him a piece of paper with the information.
"When I told them they had blank faces so I thought it would be a good idea for you to be here." Dale told him with a grin. Rick looked at the paper.
"Um, not that I know much of what was there, but did you consider any precious jewelry that might have been destroyed?" Rick asked him.
"My mom's engagement ring was thirty thousand." I added because Rick has a point.
"She wasn't buried with the ring on?" Chris questioned.
"No." I shook my head.
"Skye what about the watch mom gave him?" Sam looked at me.
"It was a six hundred and seventy five dollar watch." I told Sam.
"How do you know these numbers?" Chris wondered.
"I'm good with remembering numbers. There was also my parents wedding rings, mom's diamond earrings, grandma's diamond embezzled bracelet, great grandpa's grandfather clock."
"Do you know how much they were?" Chris wondered.
"Yeah our mom told me." I told him.
"Here, write down what you know the prices of." Chris handed me a notepad. I started to think about mom's earrings and grandma's bracelet and started to write down the numbers. When I was done I handed Chris back the notepad. Chris took a calculator from the desk and started to add the numbers up. He seemed a bit surprised, "How can I trust you on getting these numbers right?" Chris asked me.
"Well I'm great at remembering dates and events of what happened. I can remember numbers and what it corresponds to."
"Yeah actually. She's in my history class and she hasn't gotten one answer wrong when it came to any date." Rick told him, "She has an 'A' in my class."
"Do you mind if I ask you some questions? History was my number one topic." Chris asked.
"Sure." I nodded.
"What were the years of Shays Rebellion?" Chris asked. Wow, Shays Rebellion?
"1786 to 1787." I responded.
"State of Franklin declares independence?"
"I believe it was August 23, 1784."
"Harder one, 1974 World Cup?"
