"Honey how old is this guy?" My dad asked after I told him I was going out with Devon. I sat in my chair in the kitchen while my father paced and my mother watched.

I tried to think of how old he looked. I should have asked how old he was when he was changed. "Twenty two." He looked a bit older but I was trying to make my dad feel better. He frowned like he didn't believe me.

"Honey, she's an adult. He seems like he cares, and he's well off so.." My father turned on my mother.

"What because he has money I'm suppose to just let her go with him? You haven't heard the way people talk about this guy. They act as if he's some kind of murderer or ex con!"

"Daddy!" I said interrupting him. "Devon is a good guy. I don't care what a bunch of superstitious people say about him. Just because he likes to be alone doesn't make him a murderer." I tried not to picture all the people he killed. I knew that now he only drank the blood of animals so his past didn't matter. Or at least it shouldn't.

My mother the peace keeper as always asked me. "What does he do? Did he inherit his money?"

Her question shook me from my thoughts. "No, he runs an internet music store. Very successfully I guess."

"Oh." She turned to my father. "You see? He's not some drug lord or criminal. Let her go." It was just a that moment that the doorbell rang. It turned my chair and followed my father to the door.

"Be nice dad." I warned in a low voice. He pursed his lips as he opened the door. To my surprise Devon had already changed his cloths and had his black hair was tossled hanging slightly in his eyes.

"Mr. Raven. It's nice to see you again." Devon said sounding very polite. He waited on the door step not moving until my father motioned him inside. Devon looked at me. "Good morning." He said with a hint of amusement.

"Good morning Devon. Thank you for the piano." I repeated so my mother didn't scold me. She was standing in the doorway behind me.

"I felt bad that you lost yours in the fire."

My mother came forward. "Hi I'm Casey's mother."

Devon shook her hand but I noticed a muscle in his neck flare. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs. Raven. I'm Devon Bane."

"Yes Casey tells me you run an internet music store. But she didn't tell me how you two met." I rolled my eyes. Why did they have to do this?

"Mom.." I began but Devon answered smoothly.

"We met in Bob's store, I was doing some shopping and we got talking. I've never met anyone I have so much in common with before. But I've been on business trips allot lately so this is the first chance I've had to take her anywhere."

"You know Bob?" My father interrupted. Devon turned his head tensely.

"Not personally no."

My father stepped around to me looking very confrontational. "You know we found Casey on the ground ten feet from her apartment. We still don't know how she got that far out as injured as she was." This time I tensed. What was he insinuating?

Devon's expression was blank when he said. "Well, I guess we're all very lucky she got out at all."

I was tired of this and wanted to get out. "Ok let's go. Bye mom, bye dad. I'll be back later." I said wheeling my way out the door with Devon behind me.
