I watched so many Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl scheming scenes trying to write this chapter.

Sorry for the delay, but now everything in the school year is done for me at least!

Chapter Thirty One

"So tell me again," Niall said slowly. "Why yo're skipping out on going out with us tonight to sit in front of your laptop screen?"

"I'm sorry," I sighed. "I'm just not feeling great, but I'm sure it'll pass in a day or two."

Niall gave me a doubting look before he sighed. "Fine. Call me if you need anything."

He left after a quick kiss and I exhaled after the door closed. The guilt about lying sucked and what made matters worse was the fact that I was acting like I hadn't learned anything from previous realtionships. Lying made everything worse. But this time, things were... different.

As in life threatning different. Fall was coming quickly and there was the break we were all leaving for tomorrow. I would be meeting Niall's family for the first time, as if that wasn't nerve wracking enough. But the car accident... it wasn't so much of an accident.

This week, I had uncovered piece after piece of proof. And maybe none of the boys figured it out, but I had. I always figured the schemes out. I used to make many of my own. And now I was in fron to my computer, uncovering this one. First, list of suspects. The tricky part was, were those who caused the 'accident' after the 5 boys, or me? Was it somebody like Lana back in New York? All I knew that it wasn't as likely. Which of course, made it yet even more difficult.

But I couldn't let the boys walk into a situation like this. I had been in a few before. Things ended badly, and I had to get to the bottom of this before anything happened like the things that had happened to me before. Nobody deserved to go through that, it's a living hell.

The lying was 100% necessary. If whoever was behind this was willing to put Liam and I in critical condition, there was no way I'd risk anybody's lives in this one. All but my own. I was born and raised in New York. I was born and raised amongst people who lied and cheated and played with fire. But I had learned to control the fire. I was a Grade A bitch who you didn't want to mess with.

I didn't grow up with a good soul, but that was probably the best thing that's come out of my coming here. I looked like I had everything I wanted, but if that was the definiton of everything, I'd rather have nothing. But I couldn't let myself get off track. I knew what I had to do. Search up enemies of any sorts, bad encounters and over the top mental haters. Dig deep and you find the dirt. It'd be worth getting  your hands dirty.

I had been working for about an hour straight before the door opened. I didn't even notice at first, until Josh Devine came up behind me and asked what the hell I was doing.

In a flash, I shut the laptop screen down. "Nothing."

Josh gave me a dubious look. "Teagan..."

"Josh..." I imitated his tone of voice. "It's-it's nothing okay?"
