Friday rolled around incredibly fast. Aaron hadn't come back to the store for Iris' dress which had more disappointed than I thought I would be. I wasn't going to see him again because he had no reason to drive an hour and thirty minutes anymore. I wouldn't get to see his handsome face or his beautiful blue eyes.
I'd still get to see Iris though, but it wasn't the same.
Iris came to the store in the afternoon to get her dress, but something was off. I went into the back room to get the dress and came back out to see her crying.
I immediately came around the counter and wrapped my arms around her. She leaned into me and cried harder.
"What's going on, Iris?"
She cried for a moment then seemed to compose herself. "Ever since you broke up with my dad, he's been really hard on me."
That wasn't good. "I thought he only had you on the weekends."
She pulled away from me and wiped under eyes. "Yeah, but he called this morning and started yelling at me to get my dress myself."
So, maybe he was in a shit mood like I was, but that was no excuse to be rude to his own daughter. "I'm so sorry, Iris."
She nodded. "Maybe you could come over for dinner tomorrow and get back together," she suggested.
I couldn't face him after the way we left things. "Iris, listen—"
"Please, Kyra. I know dad is miserable. You broke up with him, and he had to cancel his show on Wednesday because he was sick and then—"
I interrupted her little guilt trip by lifting my hand. "I get it, Iris."
With her tears long forgotten, she smiled clearly proud of herself. "Good, so you'll come over? You'll get to meet Brielle."
I looked into her hopeful eyes and realized that maybe this was what she needed. Just a nice dinner, and then she'd let the idea of me and Aaron together go.
"Alright. I'll be there."
She squealed. "Perfect." She gave me a big hug and kiss before running out of the store.

That night I drove to Deja and Cameron's house.
They had an obnoxiously large house which was weird considering it was just the two of them. It would probably come in handy when they started to have kids.
I walked up to the front door and knocked hoping Deja would answer.
I knew I had to make it right. She didn't deserve the things I said to her, and I missed her. She was my best friend, and I'd been mean and nasty to her.
The door swung open, but it was Cameron standing there eyeing me with an unreadable expression.
"What do you want?"
I guess I'd have to go through the protective husband first. "I just want to talk to Deja."
He shook his head. "No."
"Please?"
"I'm sorry, but you're interrupting our dinner with a guest."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm not going to hurt her, Cameron."
He glared and there was nothing unreadable about that. "You already did, Kyra. Just because you get jealous doesn't mean you get to make my wife feel like shit or make her question herself. That doesn't happen."
