Tying the strings on my robe, I walked out of my room and into my kitchen to find Aaron shirtless and cooking breakfast. His back was turned to me giving me a perfect view of his muscled back.

Humming softly to himself, he turned around and stopped short when he saw me watching him.

"What are you looking at?" He asked as he slid a few strips of bacon on a plate.

"I'm just enjoying the view." I took a seat at the counter and swiped a strip of bacon off the plate. "Thought you couldn't cook."

"Doesn't take a genius to make bacon." His eyes were drawn to my lips as I tore off a piece of bacon with my teeth. "How'd you sleep?"

"Good."

"Sore?"

I shook my head.

He nodded and pushed the plate of eggs and bacon towards me with a fork. I started to eat then realized he wasn't eating. He was just watching me intently.

"Not eating?"

"I ate already. I had to go to the bar real quick and sort out a situation." He sounded annoyed by whatever happened at the bar.

I shoved a fork full of eggs into my mouth. "What kind of situation?"

He sighed. "Orion quit."

Swallowing the food in my mouth, I took notice of the fact that he wasn't looking me in my eyes. "Quit or got fired?"

He shot me a dirty look like he couldn't believe I'd ask him such a thing. I didn't think it was unreasonable for me to be curious or concerned.

When Aaron left the bar last night, he was not happy with Orion. The next day he tells me Orion quit, and he expected me to just accept that?

"I had no reason to fire him, Kyra."

My brows shot up. "Really? So you didn't threaten to punch him yesterday?"

He scoffed. "You have no idea what you're talking about. I wouldn't fire him because I was angry."

He was right. It wasn't really any of my business, but that didn't stop me from worrying about Orion. When I'd asked him about his job, it sounded like he needed the money.

"Did he say he had another job waiting for him?"

"Why does that matter? He put me in a very tight position by quitting on such short notice."

"Aaron—"

"No, it's not up for discussion," he cut in as his phone began to ring. He checked the caller ID and answered with a heavy sigh. "Hello?"

As he listened to the person on the other line, pure fear formed in his eyes. I automatically reached out and touched his hand to comfort him even though I didn't know what was wrong.

He gripped my hand tightly in his as he continued to listen.

"Will she be okay?" His voice broke, and his eyes snapped to mine. "Alright, I'll be there."

He hung up and pulled me towards him, wrapping his strong arms around me. His heart was racing in his chest, and I was almost afraid to ask what had happened.

"Aaron, what happened, honey?"

He let out a deep shaky breath that tickled the skin on my neck. "I have to go. Right now."
